Winning the hearts of legislators in Pennsylvania

The keys to progress in Pennsylvania.

The newest edition of the engaging Convention of States Action podcast series **"Grassroots Groundbreakers"** is now available by clicking here!

On this month's program, entitled “Winning the Hearts of Legislators”, host and Convention of States Action chief grassroots officer Mike Ruthenberg chats with COS Pennsylvania State Director and newly-minted Challenge Coin recipient Chet Jack, Legislative Liaison Sean Sullivan, and Regional Captain Carl Mackenstein.

They discuss the strategies that they implement to build and maintain relationships with state legislators. Sean talked about how to establish good rapport with legislative staff members, with whom the grassroots will speak more than the legislators themselves, and providing information to legislators and the staff, particularly those who are still undecided about an Article V convention.

Carl related his experience about connecting with legislators and grassroots activists who are involved with other organizations at political events, legislative town hall meetings, and rallies throughout the state in order to expand the reach and awareness of COS in the Keystone State.

He also examined the bipartisan nature of the drive to call an Article V convention, how he attempts to gather support among Democrats and Republicans through open dialogue, and how he persuaded the president of a Pennsylvania group called Firearm Owners Against Crime to back off of publicly opposing COS.

Chet mentioned the importance of asking legislators to identify other legislators with whom they have worked and cooperated on other issues as a means of gathering more support within the statehouse for the COS resolution. According to Chet, the COS resolution currently has two Democratic co-sponsors in the Pennsylvania General Assembly

“Grassroots Groundbreakers” is an important and informative resource for everyone who is involved with COS. Clear some time to catch Mike and guests like Chet, Sean, and Carl, who have devised and deployed innovative and effective grassroots strategies that have proved successful in making strides toward calling an Article V convention and that you can use in your state.
