WATCH: Trump reflects on assassination attempt at RNC
There was blood pouring everywhere. And yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe.
| After narrowly surviving a harrowing assassination attempt, former President Donald Trump officially accepted his party’s presidential nomination before reflecting on the attack on the fourth and final night of the Republican National Convention. Introduced to the stage with a stirring live rendition of Lee Greenwood’s classic American anthem, “God Bless the USA,” an emotional Trump called for the nation to unite in healing, faith, and unity. “I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America. Because there is no victory in winning for half,” he reminded the euphoric crowd before accepting his third consecutive GOP nomination. “Let me begin this evening by expressing my gratitude to the American people for your outpouring of love and support following the assassination attempt at my rally on Saturday,” he said. So many people have asked me what happened,” he continued, “and, therefore, I will tell you exactly what happened.” He added that he does not plan on sharing the entire story again as it’s “actually too painful to tell.” “There was blood pouring everywhere,” he remembered. “And yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side.” “I’m not supposed to be here tonight. I’m not supposed to be here. I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of Almighty God.” To hear the entire story, watch the whole speech below. |
