Volunteer to Help at Convention of States Events
There are a number of volunteer activities that can contribute to our mission as a passed state to “Build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists” This document will help you to know how to conduct one of those activities namely assisting Convention of States (COS) District Captains and other leaders in providing COS information to the public and recruiting petition signers and volunteers at public events. These events might include county fairs, festivals, local parades, gun shows or other events where large numbers of the public may attend. Typically COS District Captains and other leaders set up a table or booth at these events with flags and COS banners and engage people who pass by telling them about the COS organization, giving them informational materials and asking them to sign the COS petition. Ideally, the table or booth should have at least two or three people. One or more of those could be you.

Volunteer at Convention of States Events
Volunteer Activity Plan
Fellow Patriot,
You have chosen to volunteer in a cause to restore our Federal government to what the framers of our
Constitution intended using Article V of that constitution, a protection provided by the framers to check
a government that has moved beyond its limited and enumerated powers. You can play a most
important part in this effort as a volunteer to help us get the job done.
There are a number of volunteer activities that can contribute to our mission as a passed state to “
Build
an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists
”
This document will help you to know how to conduct one of those activities namely assisting
Convention of States (COS) District Captains and other leaders in providing COS information to the
public and recruiting petition signers and volunteers at public events.
These events might include county fairs, festivals, local parades, gun shows or other events where large
numbers of the public may attend. Typically COS District Captains and other leaders set up a table or
booth at these events with flags and COS banners and engage people who pass by telling them about
the COS organization, giving them informational materials and asking them to sign the COS petition.
Ideally, the table or booth should have at least two or three people. One or more of those could be you.
COS leaders in the state identify commonly occurring events and post them on an Events Calendar. As
the date of the event draws near, leadership attempts to recruit District Captains and other volunteers to
staff a table or booth at the event. There are two ways you can contribute, first you can let the District
Captain in your district know you are available to help at these kinds of events and participate if you
are called on. Second you can search your local newspapers, bulletin boards, radio announcements or
other sources for upcoming public events and notify your District Captain about them in case he/she is
not already aware of them so they can be added to the Events Calendar.
A typical setup for an event will include a fold up table, table cloth (possibly with COS logo), COS
banner, United States flag, informational material, blank petitions, sun shade as appropriate and several
folding chairs. Most of these items will be supplied by the District Captain but you may be asked to
bring chairs, cooler with ice, water bottles.
Many events are one day or part of a day, some are multiple days. Normally if you are asked to help, it
would be for no more than three or four hours at a time unless you are available and want to do more.
What is often very helpful is carrying the items from parking areas to the setup area and the reverse
when the event is over.
During the event you will observe how the District Captain or others engage those who pass by and
explain the Article V process and encourage people to sign the petition. If you feel comfortable joining
in please do but you will not be expected to take the lead in doing this until you feel you are ready.
After participating in one or more of these events and seeing the impact and enthusiasm of people who
learn that an Article V convention to propose amendments to correct problems in our government is a

powerful and viable option, you may choose to apply for one of the positions in the state leadership
team. Regardless, your participation is very valuable and contributes to the mission of building the
grassroots army.
