Vermont’s border under attack, gov’t unresponsive
The federal government remains deaf to the pleas of the citizens of Vermont.
| Within four months in this last year, over 2,000 migrants crossed illegally into the United States… from the northern border. Mexican migrants crossed from Canada into America, at the Swanton Sector. This sector is the stretch of border that includes New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Last year, during this same period, only 200 migrants were counted illegally crossing this section of the border, according to NBC News. That means between October 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023, ten times more migrants crossed illegally than in the previous year. Local authorities have asked for reinforcements from Customs and Border Protection since their current manpower is powerless against this surge. Most of these migrants flew from Mexico to Canada, with the intention of crossing illegally into the U.S. from the north. They correctly assessed that it would be easier to gain access to the states from the under-protected northern border. The reality is, our government does not take seriously the plight of its citizens. It does not take seriously the insurgence of illegal migrants into our country from the southern, as well as the northern border. It does not take seriously the safety and security of the legally residing citizens within its borders. If our government, with all its power and control, is unwilling or unable to secure its international borders, what are they there for? This issue specifically affects the citizens of Vermont, the second least populated state in the Union. Specifically because of its low population, this state is at particular risk of being overcome by an incoming illegal migrant population. Yet, the federal government remains deaf to the pleas of the citizens of Vermont. The time is imminent to pass the Convention of States resolution. The citizens of this great state deserve protection, and if the government will not provide it, the people must stand up to them. An Article V convention would allow delegates from all the states to propose amendments that would decrease the inefficiencies of government bureaucracy and restore to the people a government that will serve them.
