Use Your Phone as a Hotspot
| Most modern smart phones can be set up as a “hotspot” to give Internet connectivity to another device. For example, if you are out and about with your tablet or laptop computer, you can connect them to your smart phone to use the Internet. Note: even if your phone is capable of having a hotspot, your data plan has to support it. Check with your carrier if you cannot get a hotspot connected with these instructions. For both iPhones and Androids, click the Settings on your phone, then go to Personal Hotspot. Turn on Allow Others to Join. You will be given a password, which you can change to something easy to remember (and at least 8 characters). Leave your phone on the Personal Hotspot and on the device you want to connect, select Settings, then Wi-Fi. The name of your phone will be among the other networks available. Select your phone and enter the password from your phone's hotspot. It may take several moments, but when the connection is made, you will see two “linked” links. You are now connected to the Internet through your phone. The page for people to sign the COS petition is here: https://www.conventionofstates.com/event_petitions. Note: If you don't know the name of your phone (or if you want to rename it), go to General>About>Name. The connection will be dropped after several minutes of inactivity. Simply restore the connection by opening the Hotspot page on your phone and reconnecting. |
