Turning Point USA Engaging Youth in Constitutional Values

Turning Point USA is on a mission to educate and empower the youth of South Carolina in the principles of liberty, freedom, and the Constitution.

In an ever-changing world, the need to engage and empower the next generation in politics and civic education is more crucial than ever. Gracen Shivar, the Palmetto High School Field Representative for Turning Point USA, is leading the way in South Carolina by guiding high school students and educators in establishing Turning Point chapters in schools and communities. Joining her in this noble endeavor is Natalie Traver, the president of the Hartsville Activism Hub at Turning Point USA.

In a recent meeting with the South Carolina Convention of States Leadership Team, Gracen and Natalie shed light on the profound impact that Turning Point USA is making in the lives of young students and their mission to promote constitutional values.

Gracen describes Turning Point USA as a nonprofit organization committed to helping high school and college students initiate chapters that focus on promoting liberty, freedom, and the values of the Constitution in their schools and communities. The combined number of college and high school chapters across the nation is a staggering 3,500. While Gracen primarily works with high school students in South Carolina, Turning Point's influence extends to chapters in all 50 states, both high school and college.

Natalie's story serves as a testament to the profound impact the organization has on young minds. She first learned about Turning Point at a Darlington County Republican Women's meeting and was immediately drawn to the prospect of educating herself and others about the Constitution while connecting with like-minded youth.

Natalie, along with her friends, decided to start a chapter, embarking on the process of creating bylaws and executive functions. Her dedication led her to attend a Turning Point conference called the Chapter Leadership Summit in West Palm Beach, where she learned invaluable leadership skills, connected with other young leaders, and was inspired by impactful speakers.

Currently, Natalie is in the process of planning her chapter's first meeting and learning about building membership, which allows chapters to operate uniquely to fit their goals. Her journey is a clear reflection of the powerful impact this organization has on the development of young leaders.

Turning Point USA offers incredible opportunities for students to be actively engaged in promoting civic education, even if they are home schooled. The process is remarkably simple, requiring only three high school students to start a chapter. Once they form an executive board, they plan meetings, engage in community service, and participate in various activities to create a fun and educational atmosphere. Strong emphasis is placed on constitutional education, emphasizing the importance of the Constitution and the value of freedom in students' lives, both in high school and as they become eligible voters.

Gracen enthusiastically highlights the various opportunities and support provided to Turning Point USA chapters. They actively participate in speaking engagements, volunteer work, and offer a supportive community for like-minded students. In addition, they also organize events like America Fest where students can connect with prominent speakers and other young leaders.

Moreover, Turning Point USA is committed to reducing financial barriers. There are no fees or dues for starting a chapter, and the organization provides free materials, resources, and even offers travel stipend application opportunities to help students attend conferences and events.

Turning Point USA is on a mission to educate and empower the youth of South Carolina in the principles of liberty, freedom, and the Constitution. Convention of States fully understands the importance of this mission. Dedicated leaders like Gracen Shivar and Natalie Traver, are paving the way for the next generation of informed, engaged, and active citizens.

For those interested in getting involved or starting a chapter, Gracen encourages reaching out to high school students, teachers, administrators, or anyone working in high schools who may be interested. The process is straightforward, and anyone can contact Gracen for guidance and support.
