Home Newsletters ===== The Peach State Patriot ===== Volume 1 Issue 2  This issue of The Peachtree Patriot is dedicated to National Constitution Day, September 17. We observe this day with particular reverence not only because it commemorates the signing of the US Constitution in 1787, but also because the Constitution is the foundation of our Convention of States organization. You can learn more here. ___________________________________________________________ === Did You Know === On September 25, 1789, 10 amendments to the Constitution, became the Bill of Rights. Amendment 1 Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. The First Amendment protects speech, religion, press, assembly, and the right to protest the government. These five guaranteed rights are most important because they make the people of the United States the freest in the world, keeps them free of tyranny and protects the other rights guaranteed to them. by: Brenda Heidman ___________________________________________________________ === Current Events === * Friday, September 17. We encourage everyone to check their local colleges, universities, and libraries to see what events they may be having for Constitution Day. These are usually drop-in events, open to the public, and free of charge. Also, there are often programs just for children too. This can be fun, very informative and educational for the entire family. * Sunday, September 19, 7:00 p.m. Join Americas Constitution Coach, Rick Green, as he talks about the past week's events from a Constitutional perspective. Watch Rick live on Facebook Sunday evening and learn more about the Patriot Academy here. ______________________________________________________________ === === === Future Events === * Saturday, October 2, is the 42nd annual Odum Day celebration in Odum, Ga. Region 1 will have a booth there. View more details here or contact Sharon Fuhrman at <[email protected].> * October 7-17 is the Georgia National Fair in Perry. This is an 11-day event that needs many volunteers to work the COS Georgia booth. Please sign up to help reach the huge audience attending this fair. * October 15-17 is the 22nd annual Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival at J.F. Gregory Park, Richmond Hill. This is one of the largest seafood festivals in the southeast and Region 1 will have a booth there. Learn more here or contact Kelly Durbin at kelly.durbin@cosaction.com or Don Gardner at donald.gardner@cosaction.com. _______________________________________________________________ === Volunteer Spotlight ===  This year Jo'El Lapp has not only been promoted to Georgia State Director, but she was also awarded the very prestigious Convention of States Challenge Coin by CEO Mark Meckler for her extraordinary work and dedication to the success of COS.There are only 300 Challenge Coins minted, and COS has awarded less than 200 of them since its inception eight years ago. Each recipient also receives a numbered and signed certificate and lapel pin. The coins feature the image of Founding Father George Mason on one side and the original COS logo on the other.
