Texas State Director Receives Challenge Coin

Convention of States Texas State Director Shelby Williams was honored with a Challenge Coin at the recent Texas Leadership Summit meetings.

Shelby became active in Convention of States in 2016. After initially volunteering as a District Captain, he was quickly moved into the role of Regional Captain.

The COS resolution was passed in Texas in 2017, which was followed by some turn-over in the leadership ranks. Shelby volunteered for the role State Director and took over that position in June 2018.

He led the team in developing a four-pronged strategy, key part of which was engaging with the 2019 Texas legislative session. Shelby was instrumental in mobilizing the COS grassroots to show up at the capitol for a key hearing on property tax reform and again at a rally in April 2019.

Shelby has also modeled citizen engagement and leadership by a hard-fought and successful campaign for City Councilman in his hometown of Plano. He sets an example through his commitment to his young family and his Christian integrity.

The COS Challenge Coins are a limited set of awards for volunteers who have contributed significantly to the movement. The collection is limited to three hundred coins, which are presented along with numbered certificates and pins.

Other Texas volunteers who have received the Challenge Coin include Mike Cassidy, Tamara Colbert, Sharon Correll, Tom Dowdy, Brent Dunklau, Bill Ely, Sammi Hammers, Martin Harry, Paul Hodson, Joanne Martin, Cindy Nation, Tom Reynolds, and Angie Turner.
