Why fund an existing “trail” with another 3.6 million dollars by the federal government?
By some reports, a “relatively small provision” in the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill unveiled at the end of December 2022: funds $3.6 million towards a hiking trail already in place, in use and named after Michelle Obama in Georgia. The 3.8-mile Michelle Obama trail near the Georgia State University-Perimeter College campus in Decatur was unveiled in 2018.DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson led the resolution to rename the trail after Obama, saying he was inspired by her “Let's Move” anti-childhood-obesity initiative and passion for physical fitness. The decision to rename the trail was unanimously approved by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in late 2016.  Sooo why fund it more with 3.6 million dollars by the federal government? What does a “trail” need but a few signs and markers? It looks like this one needs wood decks and railings. I do not see what is good about this other than creating jobs. It’s no surprise Americans are tired of the spending in D.C., and they’re turning to the states for solutions. The Article V Convention of States movement has been gaining steam all across the country. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have voiced their support for the Article V state convention option, which allows state legislatures to call a convention for the purpose of proposing constitutional amendments. These amendments can shrink the power and jurisdiction of the federal government and return power to the states and the people. Fiscal Restraints could be one way to cut the bureaucracy. Politics will always be messy, but a Convention of States can move the concentration of power closer to the people, where they’ll have a real opportunity to hold their state officials accountable and get what is best for their neighborhoods.
