Surge of Support at the Florida State Fair
Dennis and his team acquired over 952 petition signers at the fair. Of those petitions, 105 were from other states!
| One of my favorite things Convention of States members say is, “We've got a country to save, so let's get to work!” Well, last week, that is exactly what Florida State Director, Dennis Darragh, set out to do. He, along with 22 unique volunteers, had fun distributing information about Convention of States at the Florida State Fair in Tampa. Let's give a huge shout out to the team of volunteers: Donnie Rutherford State FUT Leader DC 64 Brenda Karlin SGC Thomas Swann DCT 63 Howard Boothroyd DCT 74 Jerry Halstead VCD 68 Bill Shepherd Vol 72 Wade Swaney Vol 58 Kristie Whitmore DC 65 Kregg Koudela VCD 33 William Rae HD 66 Rick Bertram DC 35 Edwin Jackson VOL 66 Daisy Yong DC59 Caroline Collins HD 73 Bryant King VOL 37 Jason Shanahan DCT 35 Susie Shanahan VOL 35 Al and Joanne Burley VOL 36 Kathleen Boggess FUT Team HD36 Rosaleen O’Toole VOL 36 Martha Jenkins VOL 58 This annual event ran from April 22nd through May 2nd, later than usual due to COVID-19. In 2020, the event drew nearly half a million people, so it had great potential for reaching new COS members. I had the opportunity to check in with Dennis during the fair for an update of what was happening on the ground at the event. > Dennis said, “I have scheduled 22 unique volunteers for this fair. A new record! The Fair authority is loosely enforcing the mask mandate so no problems at all with that. We as a group were ready to sacrifice for the mission and wear masks, but as it turns out you just have to have it with you. Some people are wearing them on their wrists and the Fair people are okay with it. We are in a different building than last year, and were worried there wouldn't be as much traffic. It turns out there is less traffic, but the people are easier to engage.” Apparently, having quality interactions with people is equally as effective as having a large number of contacts because Dennis and his team acquired over 952 petition signers at the fair. Of those petitions, 105 were from other states! According to Dennis, the large number of petition signers arises from the fact that “everyone knows Washington is broken! Sooo, remember, WE'VE GOT A SWAMP TO DRAIN, SO LET'S GET TO WORK!” Have I mentioned how much I love it when I hear COS members make this statement? When it comes to the core mission of growing the grassroots of the Convention of states, the 2021 Florida State Fair was a great success thanks to Dennis and his team. Well done, everyone! # | PETITION_WIDGET{petition_tag:;coalition_id:;anedot_url:} | # |
