Steve Deace: Trump’s first 100 days

A brief word to the wise.

The following is from podcaster and COS endorser Steve Deace.

President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been better than we could have hoped.

He’s tackling problems with ruthless efficiency. He’s cracking down on our rogue national government. He’s hitting the Deep State on multiple fronts.

During his first term, Trump had slogans, ideals, and ambitions. This time, he has a vision, strategy, and a plan of attack.

It’s paying off. His opponents are stunned, dazed, and confused. Everywhere we look, the forces of darkness are on retreat. National pride and patriotism are on the rise. To quote Ronald Reagan’s iconic 1984 campaign ad, “It’s morning again in America.”

That’s all great.

But if I may offer a brief word to the wise.

One potential pitfall of having a favorable president in the White House is that patriots like you and I will fall for the tranquilizing assumption that everything he does nationally will immediately trickle down to the state and local levels. Leery parents who once guarded their kids fiercely from the Rainbow Jihad will let down their guards. War-hardened activists who offered their blood, toil, tears, and sweat to the country during the Biden years will suddenly retire from the fight. All of us will be tempted to believe that our work is finished, to kick back and relax, to sip beer and watch Fox News.

We must not let this happen.

The grassroots remains essential to America’s restoration. Trump’s best efforts will, ultimately, go to waste if the grassroots aren’t involved. Trump may have proven himself to be a resilient leader, but if we really think he can single-handedly turn this country around, we are in for a rude awakening. Entrenched, establishment party influences will fight tooth and nail to thwart Trump’s progress, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that they don’t succeed.

How do we do this?

By looking at the bigger picture. We can’t be so focused on the here and now — on the temporary comforts of having Trump back in office — that we miss the deeper spiritual and political plot against the American people. Our government has been commandeered by radicals who fundamentally oppose our way of life. Trump may do his best to exorcise them, but inevitably, history tells us, they will sneak back in.

Four years under Biden should have taught us this lesson: anything Trump accomplishes can easily be overturned by a future administration. I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I’m not exactly known for my Pollyannaish views, either. This is just the reality of the situation we face on the ground. If the grassroots patriots of America let down their guard, it’s only a matter of time before we find ourselves in a situation much worse than what we faced under Biden.

Just because we have a champion in the White House does not mean that we can all disband and go home. Quite the opposite. Now is the time to rally the troops, to strengthen the army, to build our grassroots muscle.

History is littered with brilliant generals who made fatal mistakes by letting up when the enemy was on the run — pausing instead of pressing their advantage. We cannot afford to repeat that error.

With Trump working from within, we must launch our attack from without. The Founding Fathers made a way for us to do this. With an Article V convention, “We the People” can enact amendments to the Constitution limiting federal spending, power, and terms of office. The Founders, who unanimously adopted the Article V convention provision, fully intended for us to do this whenever the federal government became too massive, powerful, or out-of-touch. In other words, they created it for such a time as this.

Convention of States Action — the grassroots organization leading the charge for an Article V convention — is the only movement on our side with the critical mass of resources and manpower to effectively deliver a blow to the heart of D.C. elitism and tyranny. President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to return power to the American people; we have the opportunity to cement that legacy and ensure that no one can undo the progress he makes.

The question is, will we? Will we have the courage to do as Trump recommended nine months ago in a place called Butler, Pennsylvania? Will we fight, fight, fight? Or will we watch passively as the battle for the country unfolds on X? Will we sit aimlessly on our hands and then expect to complain if the election doesn’t go our way in four years? That’s what many of us did last time.

God has blessed us with a second chance. We have the opportunity to recapture lost ground, turn back the tides of radicalism and statism, and preserve a country for our children. Let’s not waste it.
