Ardent Opposer

Mr. Chairman and Committee Members

My name is Steve Allen, COS volunteer from HD83.

One of the most ardent detractors of the Article V Convention of States process, is the John Birch Society whose “Constitutional Mission” statement, declares “Our mission is to bring about less government, more responsibility, and – with God’s help – a better world by providing leadership, education, and organized volunteer action in accordance with moral and Constitutional principles”. Their website also states, “For over 60 years, The John Birch Society has been the force that protects and restores American liberty and independence”.

If they have been at this for over 60 years, and their mission is to bring about less government, then how come Washington DC has been growing exponentially during that 60 years? Why is the national debt over 36 trillion today?

However admirable the Birch Society mission statement may sound, I have to ask myself, “after over 60 years of their effort, how has it worked out?” The answer is NOT-GOOD! Their efforts have not produced the desired goal of their mission statement in over 60 years and things are actually getting worse. Given that fact, I say it is time to use the method given to us under Article V by the Founders of our great country.

We urge you to rely on your skills as state legislators to objectively evaluate the lack of impact the John Birch Society has had on achieving their mission and get in the driver’s seat using the language in Article V to get our country turned around as our Founders provided and intended. We ask that you support the resolution. Thank You.
