South Dakota Senate committee to hear COS resolution

COS resolution will be heard in South Dakota Senate on January 17.

While Washington, D.C., is abuzz with nomination hearings and inaugural preparations, the COS resolution to reduce the size and scope of the federal government is already moving along rapidly in several states, particularly South Dakota

Tomorrow, January 17, the South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing regarding Senate Joint Resolution 502 (SJR 502), the application to Congress for a limited-purpose Article V convention to discuss and propose amendments  “regarding the imposition of fiscal restraints on the federal government, further limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limiting the terms of office for members of Congress and other federal officials.”

Convention of States Action senior advisor Rick Santorum is expected to join members of the South Dakota grassroots in offering testimony in support of the resolution. You can watch the hearing unfold on COS Live beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET/10:00 a.m. CT, and can be accessed by clicking below:

Sen. Jim Mehlhaff is the resolution's primary sponsor in the Senate. He also happens to be Senate Majority Leader and chairman of the State Affairs Committee.
