Senator DeMint Held Away by Winter Storm

Winter weather has kept our main speaker away, but the important work of influencing our state legislators will go ahead as planned.

The winter storm’s impact on regional airports has prevented the lead speaker for Thursday’s 1:00pm rally in Richmond—former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint—from joining us as planned. He has graciously promised to come to Richmond at a future date.

All of the day’s other important events will go ahead as planned. We gather in the morning and then have meetings scheduled with delegates and senators. When they must be in committee meetings and the like, we will be visiting their legislative assistants.

This is the real reason we are going to Richmond: to impress upon our state legislators the necessity of passing HJ49 and SJ31, which establish how the General Assembly will chose, instruct, and constrain the “commissioners” it must select to represent Virginia at any interstate convention, including an Article V convention.

Our mission for Thursday remains as before: be seen, heard, and felt in the capitol as the grassroots presence that we are. We are there to influence our legislators and gain their commitment to support these two joint resolutions.

We will miss the inspiration Senator DeMint can provide, but we will go forward with undiminished enthusiasm for the task at hand: getting our legislators to YES on HJ49 and SJ31.

And we’ll still look for stragglers at the Bell Tower at 1:00pm.  😉
