Written Testimony graciously provided by the COS Montana Team
Attachment: 4708/COS_Testimony_2023-4_Petitions_and_Term_Limits.pdf
![]() Testimony-4 Petitions and Term Limits Committee Members – I have been engaged in collecting petitions, in support of the Convention of States effort, to encourage state Legislators to pass the Resolution requesting a meeting for the purpose of proposing amendments to the US Constitution. Here in Montana, we have collected in excess of 20,000 signatures from your constituents, in support of passing this resolution so that we may join 19 other states that have passed the same Resolution. 3579 petitions have been collected in the past year alone, with a broad base of support across the state. Our petitioning efforts have included numerous public events with a broad spectrum of interest. We have found that about 2/3 of the people we engage, are supportive and sign the petition. Keep in mind that we have collected petitions on election day and have received support from people of all political stripes, which is consistent with National Polling. Your Voters! Your voters, are Fed up with the Federal Government and they want change. When we explain the three tenets of the Convention of States Resolution and get to Term Limits, I personally have had numerous people grab the clip board out of my hand and emphatically state “This is a big issue for me, I will sign that.” Term Limits are a huge issue with your constituents, and they have been quite vocal voicing their disdain toward politicians with decades long tenure. There are US Senators like Schumer, Grassley and Markey, that have been in office in Washington longer than some of the members of this committee have been alive. People are sick and tired of what is happening in our Country and feel no elected representatives are addressing their concerns. I have found our senior combat veterans to be the most passionate about what is happening. Many of them that have lost friends in battle, were wounded after they made commitments to serve our country to defend the constitution. They have been disgusted with our government and have walked away from me unable to talk about it further. Senators, you have the authority and responsibility under the US Constitution in Article V, to take action. Please pass this Resolution and show concerned Montanans that you are listening to your voters. I urge you to be on the right side of pursuing a Convention of States Meeting, by passing SJ2 in support of the COS Resolution. |
