Mr. Chairman, The resolution before you today is very popular with Americans. This fact was borne out by a  poll taken two years ago by the well respected Trafalgar Group. As you may know, this group is  recognized as one of the most accurate political polling firms. In a nationwide survey of 1,078 likely election voters, the following question was asked: Would you support a Convention of States to meet and propose Constitutional Amendments  focusing on term limits for Congress and federal officials, federal spending restraints, and  limiting the federal government to its constitutionally mandated authority? Here were the key findings:  Among all voters, two-thirds supported. This included 80 percent of Republicans and just over 50 percent of Democrats. The level of  support among independents was 63 percent. These majority levels of support are remarkable in today’s polarized political climate. It is safe to say that a majority of Americans are fed up with Washington DC’s antics. This  Article V application before you is the only one you will see this session that touches on all  aspects of Americans’ concerns with Washington DC. This application addresses fiscal restraint, term limits and limits on the size and reach of the  federal government. Our fellow Montanans are tired of far away authoritarians telling us how to  use our timber, our land, and our minerals. Our fellow Americans and Montanans don’t want to  see our dollar de-based. They are tired of watching entrenched individuals become wealthy by  burrowing in and staying in lucrative federal government roles for decade after decade. I urge you to support ill_name_here It is the solution as big as the problem. It is also an  approach that a majority of Americans favors.
