Rick Santorum Joins Wyoming Grassroots For Capitol Day
| Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum joined Wyoming Convention of States grassroots for breakfast and a visit to the Wyoming Senate and House. He treated COS grassroots to a rousing speech outlining the importance of a Convention of States not only to propose crucial amendments but to educate the country about the role the states should be playing in our Republic. A Convention of States can restore the crucial balance of power lost decades ago. During breakfast, Senator Santorum, Regional Director Deanna Becket and State Director Julie Baker awarded a very deserving Park County District Captain, Stephen Mainini, the Tom Coburn challenge coin for his dedication to God, country and Convention of States. ![]() After breakfast, a quick stop in front of Chief Washakie for a photo op then everyone headed up to the Senate gallery to watch the proceedings. ![]() In a surprise invitation the Senate President, Bo Biteman, introduced Senator Santorum and asked him to address the body. Santorum talked about how Wyoming is quite unique for our accessibility to legislators and there is no security at the Capitol! He, appropriately, didn't give a Convention of States pitch, per se, but still addressed the problems the country is facing. The SWAMP will not be fixed from within DC but by the states. ![]() ![]() After Senator Santorum's address, Convention of States resolution SJ0001 lead sponsor, Senator Eric Barlow, asked for privilege of the floor to recognize COS grassroots in the gallery. You can watch Santorum's address and Senator Barlow's recognition of Convention of States grassroots, who traveled from all across the state, HERE starting at minute marker 16:12. Following the Senate visit, grassroots moved to the House gallery where Representative Daniel Singh, taking the lead for COS in the House, asked for privilege of the floor and again Convention of States grassroots and Senator Santorum were recognized by the body. You can watch HERE starting at minute marker 39:23. It was a wonderful morning enjoyed by all and, importantly, Convention of States demonstrated that we are a force. There was massive support for COS from legislators, community leaders and the COS National team, Deanna Becket and Rick Santorum. We were also honored to be joined by former Senator from Colorado, Kevin Lundberg, who conversed with Wyoming legislators about Convention of States. While in Wyoming, Senator Santorum had the opportunity to give three addresses, have one on one conversations with 38 + legislators and was interviewed by NPR! Thank you to all the grassroots who made this event a success. You are truly the driving force behind Convention of States in Wyoming. |
