   COS Anniversaries

No State Anniversaries

Samuel Adams, born on September 27, 1722, in Boston, Massachusetts, was a passionate and influential voice against British rule before and during the American Revolution. A second cousin of President John Adams, he played a major role in advancing the cause of independence.

The son of Puritan parents, Adams was raised with strong religious values. Initially expected to become a minister, he graduated from Harvard College in 1740 and later turned to politics. He was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives and later served in the Continental Congress. By the 1770s, he had become one of the leading advocates for American independence.

Adams was a founding member of the Sons of Liberty, the group that famously organized the Boston Tea Party, destroying British tea in protest of new taxes.

Adams participated in the First and Second Continental Congress, signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Due to his strong opposition to British rule, he was viewed as a major threat to the Crown—so much so that British authorities offered pardons to all who laid down their arms after the Battle of Lexington and Concord except Adams and John Hancock.

After the war, Adams helped draft the Massachusetts state constitution and served as governor of Massachusetts. He died on October 2, 1803, at the age of 81. His hometown newspaper remembered him as the “Father of the American Revolution.” https://www.whitehouse.gov/america250/founders-museum/signers/profiles/

Mark Meckler's Comments

Mark is on a much deserved vacation this week, but come back here next week as I am sure he will have inspiring and meaningful topics for us!!

Legislative Activity

If you have not had the chance to attend a session on “Apologetics” yet, check out this link and get comfortable with the process. Paul Phillips presents the information in an easy to understand presentation that will be so meaningful for you as you address issues with your legislator.  Refer to this information frequently and often.

Who better to share information about COS with than your legislator - as fall moves into Capitol Season (legislative) around the country, let's make sure we take advantage of our last District Season days (when you can find your legislator in their offices at home) and get in touch with them and let them know we are here to work with them.

District Captain Activity

KUDOS to the Top Most Active DC teams by % in the Passed States - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi. All 100% activity!  Great Job teams!!

District Captain and Volunteer activity is an area we really need to focus on. Those activity/action reports are available to communicate to our donors all the great work each of you are doing out there in the trenches! It only takes a second to file an action report on your phone or computer or go into Citizen Builder and make a note. For those District Captains reading this, we need to strive for 100% activity in Citizen Builder!  Remember, an action report will give you activity!

Fun Fact for the Week

The term “patriot” was first used regularly by Benjamin Franklin in the years leading up to the war, and came to refer to those colonial soldiers fighting against the British Army for their independence (Franklin himself was a patriot as well, and he also championed American foods like cranberries, maple syrup and Indian corn).

Social Media Program

Let's all help with the new Social Media Program! Watch for your emails Monday thru Friday; check out the Zulip Leaders Organization of the same days; or use the link below.  Takes only about 1-3 minutes to carry out the call to action!  It has proven to be one of our most effective tools!!

http://www.conventionofstates.com/social

As with all new things, a few rules follow - remember:

Do NOT tag or message legislators;
Do NOT ask others to contact legislators or sign the petition; and
Do NOT post on legislator's posts or pages

We are getting lots of good feedback from this program, the more who participate, the greater the impact! Let's all get involved!!  We have even picked up several very active sites that are following us now and posting about COS.  Per Mark Meckler - please tell as many people as possible to participate in the Social Media effort to help us combat negative comments there!

New Happenings!

Feel free to use your .us email address now! You can now start using your COS email address with the .us ending. Your COS action email will work but we will be moving toward the .us ending over the next year.  Everything else remains the same except for the .us instead of .com!

Your old .com address will forward to the new address. If you purchase business cards or any other material with your email address on it, please use the new cosaction.us.

Spoiler Alert - you will still need to sign into Citizen Builder with whatever email address you have used in the past!
