Passed States Monday Update - August 4, 2025
This update is provided to keep you posted on organizational changes and updates. We are issuing this weekly report each Monday that the National Team meets! Information shared can be shared with your teams! Hope you enjoy it. Be sure to read to the end, lots of goodies throughout!!   Start Your Engines! Registration for the Race to Freedom Leadership Summit is open and waiting for you! This inspirational and educational event will be held September 18-20, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. COS Anniversaries  No State Anniversaries * August 18, 1920: The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, guaranteeing women the right to vote. * August 6, 1945: The U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, marking a turning point in World War II. * August 14, 1945: Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day or VP [Victory in the Pacific] Day) * August 21, 1959: Hawaii became the 50th state in the U.S. * August 16, 1896: Gold was discovered in Rabbit Creek, triggering the Klondike Gold Rush. * August 10, 1920: The Treaty of Sèvres, which officially ended World War I, was signed. * August 24, 1814: During the War of 1812, British troops set fire to Washington D.C., including the White House. * August 25, 1916: President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act, establishing the National Park Service. * August 24, 79 AD: Mount Vesuvius erupted, destroying the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. * August 2, 1990: Iraq invaded Kuwait, leading to the Gulf War. * August 6, 1965: President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, aimed at overcoming legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote under the 15th Amendment. * August 16, 1944: The Second Battle of Guam concluded with the defeat of Japanese forces by the U.S. military. WOW - August is a busy month for America!   Mark Meckler's Comments It is difficult when we don't see the big win - another state - but we must learn to embrace and celebrate the smaller wins that help us get to the BIG win! Filling out a State Team and having them take off gangbusters is an example of this. All legislatures in all 50 states know of COS - this is a tribute to the Grassroots hard work and energy! In a discussion with Jason Girard recently, Jason pointed out that he saw himself as a small little man with a chisel and a hammer - chipping away at a massive stone. You keep hammering and chipping away small pieces and eventually that BIG stone breaks and you have success. Watch this!! The key here is to be persistent and don't give up!! Keep hitting that chisel with the hammer (asking more and more people to sign the petition, get active, donate). We will try new tools but all are designed to make that hammer more and more impactful!! Mark says “There is no problem more grassroots can't solve”. National is working to make sure more funds are available for advertising and allowing us to continue to do our work. We all need to increase our efforts to recruit new petition signers and volunteers. Think, have you asked your family and friends to sign? Do you know if they have? Let's all find out - if nothing else we will have educated one more person on Convention of States.   Legislative Activity As we move into District Season, we refocus closer to home than while in the Capitol (Legislative) Season. It is time for us to get our teams fired up about connecting with their legislators on our home turf. We need to also focus on building our teams to be the best we can be as we strive to fulfill the mission of Growing the Largest Grassroots Army! If you missed this in the last update on COS NOW be sure to check this out - great work and hats off to all of you! **Catch it here.**  District Captain Activity KUDOS to the Top Most Active DC teams by % in the Passed States - Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, and Oklahoma. Great Job teams!! District Captain and Volunteer activity is an area we really need to focus on. Those activity reports are available to communicate to our donors all the great work each of you are doing out there in the trenches! It only takes a second to file an activity report on your phone or computer. And for those District Captains reading this, we need to strive for 100% activity in Citizen Builder!  Fun Fact for the Week The term “Founding Fathers” wasn't used until 1920 when Warren G. Harding mentioned it in a speech.  Social Media Program Let's all help with the new Social Media Program! We are all Media Warriors at heart! Are you on Facebook or X? Do the simple, daily activities (M-F). PS - it takes less than 3 minutes and so effective! **http:%%//%%www.conventionofstates.com/social** As with all new things, a few rules follow - remember: Do NOT tag or message legislators; Do NOT ask others to contact legislators or sign the petition; and Do NOT post on legislator's posts or pages We are getting lots of good feedback from this program, the more who participate, the greater the impact! Let's all get involved!! We have even picked up several very active sites that are following us now and posting about COS. Per Mark Meckler - please tell as many people as possible to participate in the Social Media effort to help us combat negative comments there!  Feel free to use your .us email address now! You can now start using your COS email address with the .us ending. Everything else remains the same except for the .us instead of .com! This does not require any action on your part. Your old .com address will forward to the new address. If you purchase business cards or any other material with your email address on it, please use the new cosaction.us. Spoiler Alert - you will still need to sign into Citizen Builder with whatever email address you have used in the past!  Zulip News Are you having difficulty getting your teams on Zulip? If you need help, reach out to your RD and they can hook you up with assistance! We have dedicated Grassroots leaders who understand the system available to help get you and your team ready to go. Let's get our teammates on so we can make it the great communication tool it can be. We would like to see a more robust participation with this new format. Help your teams use the platform in the most effective way, have them download the app here: **Zulip App.** Emails for the COS Leaders organization have gone out - be sure to check all your emails so you don't miss it - it takes the place of the DC workspace in Slack and several others! Looking forward to seeing you all on there!  Petition Roundup As of Friday the 1st, 2,730,815 people have signed the Convention of States petition so far. That is about one two-hundreth the size of the global domestic cat population! Weekly Total: 1717. This is an average of 245 signatures per day (24% below the weekly total average) Top States: 1. NC (6.4%) 2. FL (6.3%) 3. CA (5.7%) Top Dates: 1. 7/27 (18.1%) 2. 7/23 (17.0%) 3. 7/26 (15.2%) Way to go Florida! Way to keep the Passed States in the Action!  Artificial Information (AI) and YOU!
