Passed States - Letters to Legislators - Sample 3

Attachment: 759/Passed_States_LTL_-_Sample_3.docx

Thank you for your commitment to the people of the State of {STATE} and for stepping up the serve in our legislature.

On {DATE} a prior legislative session adopted an Article V Resolution to call a Convention of the States to propose amendments to the United States Constitution. Our Constitution allows both the States and Congress to propose amendments. In light of the actions in Washington, D.C. in the past few decades, it is obvious the people in Congress have no intentions of reining in their own over-reach of power, limiting their spending habits or listening to the demands of their constituents.

When an Article V Resolution with like wording is adopted by 34 states then Congress must convene a convention to propose amendments, but only relating to the subject matter of the Resolution. Our Resolution limits the subject matter to: 1) term limits; 2) balancing the federal budget; and 3) reining in the powers of the federal government.

Each and every proposal must be ratified by 38 states. In other words, if 13 states nix a proposal, it is out. The path from Resolution to Ratification is a long journey and I hope you will take the time to familiarize yourself with the process. The Convention of States has made a commitment to be available to all legislators and citizens for information, education and support throughout the journey.

Our website has many articles and videos which explain the process and I hope you will visit it soon. The Convention of States {STATE} Team is here to help with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,
