North Carolina reaches a milestone

Congratulations to the Tar Heel State!

Signatures have a particular symbolism in American history.

Think of John Hancock’s bold script on the Declaration of Independence (so large that it could be read without spectacles), George Washington appropriately being the first to sign the Constitution in Philadelphia, and the signature of Deanna Jones of Waxhaw, North Carolina.

What’s so special about the signature of Deanna Jones of Waxhaw, North Carolina?

On July 24, she became the 100,000th person in the Tar Heel State to sign the Convention of States petition!

Deanna’s signature makes North Carolina the sixth state in the union to hit the 100,000 signature mark, joining Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, California, and Ohio.

This momentous achievement is emblematic of the growing national momentum for an Article V convention and the yield of very diligent work on the part of the North Carolina team – one of the most active in the country.

“Crossing 100,000 petitions is an obvious milestone,” said COSA regional director Grant Martin.  “However, what you don't necessarily see in that number is the amount of conversation and the amount of effort that goes into achieving it. Volunteers from across the state have tabled at numerous events and attended an untold number of functions. Then these amazing patriots would reach out to each petition signer to personally thank them.”

Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler couldn’t agree more:

“Hitting the 100k mark is a HUGE accomplishment for the North Carolina team. It represents years of dedication and thousands upon thousands of grassroots conversations. This is what grassroots activism is all about.”

What makes the 100,000th signature even more exciting and important is that the state senate still has the opportunity to – this year – make North Carolina the 20th state in the union to formally call for a limited-purpose Article V convention that will reduce the size and scope of the federal government.

Congratulations to everyone associated with COS North Carolina on this tremendous accomplishment! Thanks to the signature of Deanna Jones, the team can point to an impressive number to demonstrate to legislators and fellow citizens alike that they mean business.

Now then…do we hear 200,000?
