Courage & Cowardiness

Mr. Chairman and Committee Members

My name is Lorilee Cuvillier, Ret. SFC (US Army) from HD14.

Thank you for allowing us to speak to you today. We sit on the edge of the fall of our nation with massive debt and bloated govt. Both parties are responsible for this massive unconstitutional spending. It’s going to take both parties to correct this within each state. We have too many 70-, 80- and 90-year-old legislatures. We had a senator die who had to be wheeled out to vote. We have another senator who has hit the floor several times now. We have another senator who is going to be pushing 100 for his next term. And it was also revealed that a congresswoman has been in a dementia facility for the last six months that no one in her district knew about. Both houses on both sides have too many people that have been in office for 30, 40, and even 50 years and they should be retired. The power of incumbency must be broken. We need fresh faces and fresh ideas.

Our nation also sits with the necessary tools to fix these problems. Our founders knew the states would need this power. That is why they gave it to you. The states created the federal govt, therefore it’s going to take the states to correct it. This is why they put the correction method in the article V of our constitution.

Cowardliness is contagious. The fear tactics being spewed against this method with valid facts disputing these fears is giving you men and women a shield to hide behind. We just had a president who his entire paid career was in politics (50 years), don’t tell me that we can vote our way out of this. It isn’t working. We must place term limits in to get rid of these bad politicians. Good, bad or indifferent, a major cleaning must be done.

Courage is equally or more contagious. Our founding fathers showed courage in the face the world’s most powerful army at the time. They debated for 11 years to write down those words in the constitution for all of us to follow. States have been shirking their duties far too long. It’s way past time for you to stand up to the tyrannical federal govt and regain your constitutional role once again. Be courageous.

I have deployed to war three times. Was I scared? Yes of course. But I raised my hand and deployed. Last Friday marked 34 years when desert storm started. I volunteered to go. Why? Because it was my duty. I signed a contract to go.

Some of you may have campaigned on reducing the size and scope of state govt to get into office. A major piece of the president’s administration is the reduction of the bloated federal govt. There is a mandate to fulfill. We stand here today to say in one voice for you to honor those commitments you made to reduce the size and scope of the federal govt by passing the Convention of States. Thank you for your time.
