Kansas Governor Executive Order - A Bridge Too Far
| ===== Press release: ===== Mark Meckler, Co-Founder and President of Convention of States Action, issued the following statement in response to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s Executive Order No. 20-18. “Governor Kelly’s latest order is a direct assault on the God-given right of freedom of religion, which is enshrined in both the Kansas and United States Constitutions. While social distancing is important, the Governor does not have the authority to interfere with the fundamental right of people to worship their Creator.” Convention of States Action is a project of the non-profit organization “Citizens for Self-Governance.” The group, which boasts a grassroots network of 4.3 million citizens and an organized team of volunteer leaders in every state, is working to restore a culture of self-governance in America and to curtail federal overreach. Amidst the current public health crisis, they are now monitoring abuses of power in several states, as well. Kansas resident David P. Schneider, who serves as Regional Director for Convention of States Action said, “The prior order from Governor Kelly properly recommended responsible social distancing for religious and other gatherings. But this new order goes too far, and the Legislative Coordination Council should act quickly to revoke it.” The Legislative Coordination Council (LCC) is responsible for reviewing the Governor’s Executive Order and determining its constitutionality. The LCC meets today at 3pm for this purpose.
