The latest news from the COS Michigan team - including Lobby Day, Patriot Pin Awards and June events.
| ===== ANOTHER SIDE OF LOBBY DAY IN MICHIGAN ===== May Lobby Day for Convention of States Michigan delivered MORE than meeting with our state legislators at the Capitol. This article could simply say that on May 20th, about 20 volunteers from across Michigan drove one to three hours to Lansing and visited nearly every legislator delivering news about the progress of our mission to pass 34Ready legislation. Here’s the May message we delivered to our legislators. READ NOW. That’s the numbers. That’s the report. But there’s much more to Lobby Day than the numbers. It’s about our volunteers SHOWING UP! It’s about connecting! It’s seeing that the work we do is building momentum. We are making a difference! These monthly gatherings provide volunteers with an opportunity to see one another in person, rather than on Zoom. We say hello face-to-face, share news, and give hugs. We get to have personal conversations and brainstorm new ideas. It’s energizing to be together! But wait…there’s more! Lobby Day also brings out volunteers we’ve never met before. As we gather in the morning, we meet four to six new faces who have shown up at the Capitol Building to join us. We haven't met them before, but through our outreach, they said 'yes' and joined us. This is a real boost for volunteers (like me) who spend much of their time behind a computer screen writing words and promoting our message. These unseen volunteers lift our spirits. It validates the work we are doing. Our grassroots movement is growing, and people are driving for hours to SHOW UP and BE HEARD! New volunteers raise the morale of the entire group. This is how Convention of States will succeed! The new volunteers joined us at their legislator’s office. They recognized the value of the COS mission, and they also want Michigan to be prepared for any Article V convention of the states. What’s the experience like? Our team prepares in advance for Lobby Day. The messaging on the handouts is clear and concise. We dress in COS gear and leave home early in the morning to drive to Lansing. We gather together, divide into teams, get handouts, and hit the elevators to the legislator's offices! When we step inside an office, they and their assistants know who we are. They know what our mission is. We are welcomed with enthusiasm and questions. It’s invigorating to witness our progress. The COS messaging is working! Lobby Day is also a time to celebrate! Our volunteer family joined together for a potluck lunch. We were joined by Representative Luke Meerman, who shared a few inspirational words with us that made us feel heard. READ THEM NOW. During lunch, we also celebrated three of our most outstanding volunteers with Patriot Pins. **MEET MARILYNN GRANT** | Comms Team **MEET JOHN H. PHILLIPS** | Region Captain **MEET NANCY CHAMBERS** | District Captain Lobby Days are planned monthly. They are critical to the success of Convention of States in Michigan. We must stay the course, talk to our legislators, and keep showing up for one another. Together, we are unstoppable! Would you like to join us for Lobby Day on June 17th in Lansing?
