Is Critical Race Theory in Rhode Island Schools?

Where the civil rights movement engages black and white Americans around positive principles and values, Critical Race Theory presses into our differences and tears us away from what we do share.

Romana Bessinger, a middle school teacher, has taught in Providence, Rhode Island for six years with no incidence of racial tension. However, she was taken aback when one of her students dubbed her “America,” at once slamming her and our country.

This occurrence took place several months after textbooks and novels were thrown into recycling bins and replaced with poorly written pamphlets for use in English and Social Studies classes.

Ms. Bessinger was alarmed by the narratives within the pamphlets, which presented divisive and false information about ethnicity, gender, class and sexual orientation. Despite the content claiming to contain solutions to social issues, it offers no critical analysis nor weighing of ideas. Instead, it solely engages students in actions to realize its objective.

Where the civil rights movement engages black and white Americans around positive principles and values, Critical Race Theory presses into our differences and tears us away from what we do share.

Thankfully, some citizens are willing to take a stand. Nicole Solas, a South Kingstown (RI) resident, asked the principal of Wakefield Elementary School to provide records of curriculum that incorporates Critical Race Theory, gender theory or transgenderism. Nicole and her husband made over 200 requests within several months as their inquiry was not adequately addressed.

The school board never attempted to resolved this issue. Instead, the board placed the possibility to sue Nicole on the public agenda, a move Nicole took as an intimidation tactic.

The Rhode Island National Education Association tried to place a restraining order on Mrs. Solas for inquiring about what her kindergarten child would be learning in class.

The mere fact that they resisted informing Mrs. Solas about the affairs of her child's education is concerning, that is not even addressing the fear tactics employed.

On pages 67 and 70 of the RINEA complaint, it is stated that CRT indeed is used in student curricula. Consequently case was dropped as the RINEA has no legal right to draw a case against Nicole.

In the Fall of 2020, homeschooling rose 11.1%, a significant rise from Spring of the same year (rising 5.4%) in the U.S.. While mandates are prompting parents to pursue homeschooling, so too is the threat of innocence being stripped from them within the CRT agenda.

One New York City mom defied her school board in regards to CRT by saying, “Stop indoctrinating our children.” She shared that her high-school age daughter is receiving instruction on Black Panther terrorist directives in relation to killing police. Heads of families in Tatiana Ibrahim’s community are police officers. They are “Back the Blue” families.

Pew Research Center finds roughly eight-in-ten (79%) African Americans self-identify as Christian. Strangely, CRT has no allowance for Christian ideas.

“CRT is owned by white liberals”, states Former Political Science Professor, Dr. Carol Swain. She taught at Princeton and Vanderbilt Universities. Dr. Swain asks, “How can transgender and queer be a guiding principle for children?”

An African American high-school drop-out and second-born of twelve children declared her success was encouraged by mentors, most of them being white. The pursuit of her American dream lifted her from living in a shack with no running water or shoes on her feet to make it to school on snowy days.

She advises our nation’s people to not cripple black youth with self-pity, but to guide them to seize the opportunities America offers. Dr. Swain, along with other Black Conservatives designed 1776 Unites, a free, downloadable and inspiring curriculum that encourages upward mobility for African-Americans.

Dr. Swain Co-authored Black Eye for America, published this year. It equips Americans with effective strategies for challenging and resisting the Marxist agenda, which hides behind many buzzwords in our schools. “A house divided against itself cannot stand,“ Abraham Lincoln famously asserted. CRT aims to divide the United States. Our brotherhood will sustain us.

$200 billion of federal taxes have gone to the CRT indoctrination program within our nation’s schools. The National Education Association and the Biden administration are collaborating in order to push their agenda into the minds of our nation’s youth.

Convention of States Action will continue its effort to raise the will of the people by limiting gluttonous federal power. It is our duty and our right to decide how we are to think and live–and how our children are educated. We cannot allow the Department of Education to push this Marxist propaganda down the throats of Americans schoolchildren in all 50 states.

We aim to build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists and inspire a political and spiritual awakening in America. A Convention of States has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can shrink or eliminate many federal agencies–including the Department of Education.
