INERTIA
![]() Inertia is the natural tendency of objects in motion to stay in motion and objects at rest to stay at rest, unless a force causes the velocity to change. It is one of the fundamental principles in classical physics, and described by Isaac Newton in his first law of motion (also known as The Principle of Inertia). (Encyclopedia Britannica)Well folks, this is where I am and have been for several months now. I am an object at rest with a tendency to stay at rest. I can’t seem to ‘shake’ it off. All of this inertia is cycled around my activity, or lack thereof, with regards to the Louisiana Convention of States and what I signed on to do ~ which is ‘to write’ mainly BLOGS. So, here is what I am doing to enhance the natural tendency of an object (me) to get and stay in motion. My resolve includes efforts to 1) refocus on the COS strategic goals; 2) go into Zulip once a day and read what’s in my INBOX; 3) since I am a State Content Writer (SCW), I determine to sit down at my computer and throw ‘content of value’ onto that blank, white sheet of paper in front of me. As a refresher, to myself and to other activist/volunteers, here is the strategic goal of the Convention of States: To Call an Article V Convention to propose Constitutional amendments that: 1. Reduce the size, scope and jurisdiction of the federal government 2. Place term limits on federal officials 3. Impose fiscal restraints on the federal government To read and sign the petition: https://conventionofstates.com Louisiana was the eighth state to pass the COS Resolution. The goal, according to Article V of the Constitution, is to get 34 states to pass the COS resolution in both chambers. To date 19 states have done so. Some say, this should be a no brainer. Why only 19 states so far? Well, this effort is fueled by volunteers in each state. The effort focuses on many undertakings, and one of the most important is getting petition signatures from the public. The signed petitions become a statistic that can be used when volunteers contact their local legislators in getting them to support the Article V Amendment Convention Resolution. There are other good uses to the signed petition, but I digress. My purpose today was to unlock the ‘inertia’ that has been this Louisiana COS volunteer’s current condition. I issue a challenge to other SCWs and volunteer activists.. There is much within LaCOS to write about. There are many calls to be made, folks to be contacted, and events ‘to staff’. NOTE TO SELF: Don’t wait until someone calls out to you with an assignment. Fight the inertia. “GET CRACKIN”. ![]() Liz Jennings SCW-Louisiana Sign the Convention of States Action petition!
