Indiana governor Mike Braun endorses Convention of States
![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: info@cosaction.com INDIANA GOVERNOR MIKE BRAUN ENDORSES CONVENTION OF STATES DALLAS, Tex. – On the heels of a significant legislative victory in the Indiana General Assembly in late March, Convention of States Action is grateful and overjoyed to have received the official endorsement of Indiana governor Mike Braun. “We need a balanced budget amendment and term limits to fix the broken system in D.C.,” said Governor Braun, “and an Article V Convention of States is the constitutional solution when Congress ignores the will of the people; as Senator I was the loudest voice for a Convention of States and as governor I fully endorse what Convention of States Action is doing to get us there.“ “Governors are the tip of the spear in the fight against federal government overreach,” said Convention of States Action president and co-founder Mark Meckler, “and we are proud to have Gov. Braun’s endorsement. While representing Indiana in the United States Senate, Braun took to the floor to make the case for an Article V convention in order to establish fiscal responsibility and address the national debt due to unwillingness of Congress to do so. “We are here twiddling our thumbs while our kids’ and grandkids’ future go up in smoke,” he said. “Article V of our Constitution gives the states the power to pick up the slack when Congress refuses to act where it doesn't exercise discipline, good behavior, what all of us expect,” he continued. The Indiana General Assembly has acted when it comes to an Article V convention. In 2016, Indiana became the sixth state to approve a resolution calling for a limited-purpose Article V convention to discuss and propose amendments to “impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.” In the meantime, the General Assembly has approved legislation in preparation for such a gathering. On March 24, 2025, the Indiana House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 450 by a vote of 69-27. The bill, which relates to the appointment of commissioners who will represent the Hoosier State at an Article V convention, passed the Senate on February 10. Governor Braun’s official endorsement solidifies Indiana’s commitment to calling an Article V convention that will reduce the size and scope of the federal government and align with the overwhelming majority of Hoosiers who believe that they – not Washington, D.C. – can decide best how to govern.
