He Who Has the Gold, Makes the Rules

With 4000 lobbyists in Washington, do we the people, even have a chance?

From Section 8 - Powers of Congress, U.S. Constitution: “The Congress shall have the Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and the general Welfare of the United States….” The problem here is: Who defines what the “general welfare” is? Congress has taken liberty to define “general welfare,” as has the President, sundry department heads in the Executive Branch, The Supreme Court, and the lower courts. Maybe we should define “general welfare” for them when we consider proposing Amendments to the Constitution.

Is the Green New Deal (GND) considered benefitting the “general welfare,” or is it a Green New Deal that benefits members of the World Economic Forum? The GND is not about the environment, but about sinking capitalism and the free market system. “It is an EMERGENCY, don’t you know. The world will be destroyed in 12 years!” How many EMERGENCIES and how many 12-year cycles do we have to endure before we wake up and realize there is no “EMERGENCY” and the world will continue on the way it always has? The world is greener now than any time in recent history, thanks to the increased CO2 in the atmosphere.

Consider: you are a scientist and live in the “publish or perish” world of academia. Where do you get the funding to do your research? Most research money comes from the Federal Government. With the government funding all of most of your research, are you ever going to go against the prevailing government rhetoric? That is why many scientists support the government view or are mum about it. There is no data published that supports CO2 as a critical substance in global warming. There is no data that supports global warming – unless you look a recent history. Long term history would show that the earth (5000 years ago) was two degrees warmer than it is now. Incidental data shows that CO2 may have a small effect, but there are many more and bigger factors that influence the environment. There have been ups and downs in warming trends for thousands of years. Do you remember when in the 1970s the scientists were predicting an ice age?

If you are a scientist that receives most of your funding from the Federal Government, are you going to bite the hand that feeds you? If you receive subsidies, are you going to go public that you believe global warming is a hoax? He who has the gold, makes or heavily influences the rules of engagement.

It is only through the Convention of States that the people can express their wants and needs without monetary coercion. Will outside forces try to subvert Article 5 of the Constitution? What would your bet be? The government will never fix itself. It likes doing business as usual. It is only through the direct involvement of outside sources will we ever be able to adjust government behavior. At the moment the President acts more like a dictator than an administrator. Congress has abdicated its authority to the administration. As a result, the people have been taken out of the equation. The bureaucrats are running the country. The bureaucrats, being people, are subject to incentives from special interest groups every day, like Big Pharma, BLM, environmentalists, unions, lawyers, industry factions, medicine, farmers, casinos, defense contractors, and a host of others. All are being subsidized by the government. Are they going to buck the government narrative? Probably not. In fact, there are over 4000 lobbyists trying to gain a special advantage for their products or services. What fuels their efforts – the desire for gold (or money).

Yup – in Washington he who has the gold makes the rules. In Russia, he who has the gold makes the rules. In China, he who has the gold, makes the rules (most of the time). What the government giveth, the government can taketh away.
