Ed Mulholland: Still Defending the Cause for Freedom

===== Their oath never expires. =====

Many brave American souls have answered the call of patriotism and worked to defend our country. These individuals have pledged their lives for the cause of freedom and are still fighting the good fight.

Ed Mulholland is one of these figures. Four years of military service as an armored Cavalry officer in Germany gave Ohio Convention of States Regional Captain Ed Mulholland a deep appreciation for the liberties his country afforded him.

In his retirement from military service and the private sector, Ed took a long hard look at the current state and future of America. “I looked at the myriad issues that concerned me, and I realized that they all stemmed from a corrupt, overgrown federal government. I saw that a Convention of States was the only way to fix it.”

Inspired by the mission of Convention of States, Ed signed on as a volunteer four years ago and quickly rose to the position of co-district captain. Ed now serves as one of six Regional Captains in the state of Ohio.

Although he has had many new opportunities within Convention of States, including learning more about government, engaging legislators, and developing a dedicated team of patriots in Ohio, Ed states that his favorite part of his time with COS thus far has been the people. “It really is the people of 'COS' who make the experience so enjoyable,” he reminisces.

Since 2024, Ed and his team have visited the Ohio Statehouse on a monthly basis. They hand out brochures, engage passersby in conversation about COS and its mission, and attend scheduled meetings to inform state legislators about the effort. This “Standup” team answers a myriad of questions and encourages support of the COS resolution.

It’s a sense of duty.

Ed’s natural inclination to volunteer for Convention of States is not surprising. From a young age, Ed possessed a strong sense of duty to God and his country. During his freshman year of college, Ed joined the Army ROTC program, dovetailing his skill and experience as an Eagle Scout.

After graduating in 1983, he spent the rest of the year attending the Armor Officer Advanced Course, Airborne School, and the Infantry Mortar Platoon Officers Course. A short time later, Ed received a post in the 3rd Squadron 12th Cavalry and journeyed overseas to his position in West Germany.

During his time stationed under the shadow of the Iron Curtain, Ed reflects on his realizations about the fragile nature of liberty.

“I walked along the border between East and West Germany. I saw the guard towers watching for freedom-seekers attempting to escape the iron curtain. This experience taught me that freedom is indeed precarious, and I worry that we are slowly losing ours to a leviathan federal government which is clearly never satisfied.”

The more time he spent at the Berlin Wall, the more Ed realized just how much Americans take their liberty for granted. “Not often do many Americans pause and consider the great sacrifices of countless men and women to maintain the rights we can so casually enjoy,” he states.

With efforts of dedicated veterans and patriots like Ed, COS stands closer than ever to achieving an Article V convention and preserving our country for future generations.

Convention of States is the only solution to the rampant federal overreach in America. Ed Mulholland and thousands of other veterans across the country have once again answered their country’s call, working tirelessly to defend the nation and its Constitution through the invocation of Article V.

America would not exist today if it were not for the many selfless sacrifices made by its citizens. Our Founders, and our veterans, have pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor for the preservation of our country. We should do the same.

A veteran’s oath never expires.
