Dragon That Nests in the Throne Room

Private land ownership is a fundamental part of the American economy and a pillar of constitutional rights, deeply tied to individual freedom and state sovereignty.

During recent years, American citizens have been fighting federal government overreach by the Bureau of Land Management. Now, foreign influence is threatening freedom as farmland is being acquired by the Chinese Communist Party.

Yet, despite growing concerns, the federal government has failed to take decisive action against foreign entities, particularly China, which has aggressively expanded its ownership of American farmland. Allowing adversarial foreign governments to acquire U.S. farmland threatens American sovereignty and exposes the nation to economic and security risks.

Federal Government's Failure to Act

While several states, including North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and Indiana, have implemented laws restricting foreign land ownership, critics argue that the federal government’s failure to impose a total ban on foreign-owned farmland is a grave oversight, one that compromises both national security and economic stability.

By allowing foreign entities to continue acquiring land, Washington weakens state sovereignty, placing restrictions on how individual states can protect their own economies and security interests.

Paper Tiger

North Carolina legislators have attempted to address this issue through House Bill 133, also known as the NC Farmland and Military Protection Act. This bill prohibits foreign adversaries from acquiring, leasing, or holding land within 75 miles of a military installation, aiming to protect national security interests.

However, critics argue that these protections do not go far enough, leaving large portions of farmland vulnerable to foreign control. You can review the full text here: NC House Bill 133.  A Carolina Journal article highlights efforts by North Carolina lawmakers to limit foreign ownership of farmland, emphasizing the risks posed by adversarial nations. The article discusses legislative challenges, policy gaps, and ongoing debates about whether restrictions should apply to all land, not just within proximity to military bases.

While federal agencies impose regulations in many sectors, their lack of control over foreign land acquisition is a glaring contradiction.

The Power of Self-Governing Citizens

The United States of America is an ongoing experiment in self-governance. If We the People want to be in charge of our own lives, we must dedicate our time and attention to governing. Protecting sovereignty depends on engaged, self-governing citizens.

Convention of States Action has over 99,400 petition signers in North Carolina alone, who have joined the call to limit federal overreach and are working to make NC state #20Urge your Senator to move the resolution to the Senate floor for a vote.
