Double-Header in the Gem State

The Founders believed in you, and so do I.

The Idaho House Committee on Judiciary, Rules, and Administration considered the COS application for an Article V convention and 34|Ready model legislation, voting to pass both measures. Droves of COS grassroots supporters and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum testified in favor of using Article V to limit the federal government.

“We’re not going to solve this problem at the ballot box,” said grassroots volunteer Lorrie Wilder. “We need Convention of States to bring the states together to discuss these issues without any interference [from] the federal government.”

After confusing shenanigans to cap nearly three hours of public hearing and debate, the committee voted 8-7 for H.C.R. 9 (34
Ready) and 10 (the primary application). Both will now advance to the full House for further consideration.

Sponsor Rep. Jordan Redman pointed out that while we “need DOGE” to help rein in Washington, executive action “is not the same as the states using our constitutional rights to correct federal government shortfalls.”

Senior Advisor Santorum delivered another forceful testimony, urging committee members to support the Founders’ mechanism for restoring constitutional federalism: “The reality is, this country needs what the Founders put you there to do: check the power of Washington,” he said.

“If I thought I could fix the problem in Washington, I wouldn’t be in Boise,” he concluded. “The only reason I’m here is because you are the only ones who can fix this problem. The Founders believed in you, and so do I.”

A special thanks to Sen. Santorum, Rep. Jordan Redman, and the grassroots team in Idaho for advocating for this crucial victory. We look forward to watching as the Gem State continues to push to become the 20th state to join the movement!
