Dingell’s Rule For 86 Years and Counting

The Dingell dynasty has now lasted for 86 years.

Congressman John Dingell of Michigan passed away last week. He holds the dubious distinction of having held his office longer than any other person in the entire history of the United States. He served in the House of Representatives from 1955 to 2015.

He took office when I was one year old…and I’m 64 now. 60 years is bad enough but he was preceded in office by Daddy Dingell, who held the same seat for 22 years. The seat is now held by his wife, Momma Dingell. So the Dingell dynasty has now lasted for 86 years. But not to worry—Baby Dingell is being prepared to step into the seat once Momma Dingell retires.

Congressman Dingell grew up in Washington, D.C. He went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He took his father’s seat when he died in Washington, D.C. He held his seat for 59 years in Washington, D.C. He lived with his wife as she held his seat in Washington, D.C. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. After his funeral in Washington, D.C.

Did the Founding Fathers ever in their wildest imagination think one district would be ruled by the same family for 86 years? I think not. To add to the irony, Congressman Dingell’s state ratified the twenty second amendment imposing term limits on presidents, in 1945 while his father was a member of the House.

More and more congressmen, senators, and judges are taking office for life. Studies show that defeating incumbents is almost impossible. These people take office, make connections with reporters and lobbyists and make fortunes while running up more and more debt that our children will have to pay. This must stop.

We cannot expect Congress to impose term limits on themselves. No one in their right mind would ever vote to limit their access to incredible power, fame, and money. They are addicted and we must intervene before they cause the country to collapse.

The Founding Fathers knew this time would come and they voted unanimously to add Article V to the Constitution. This allows the states to rise up and fix the problems our congress refuses to address. Millions of us have already taken a stand but we need your help.

Contact Convention of States now and find out what you can do to impose term limits and a balanced budget on our government.
