DID YA KNOW?

====== DID YA KNOW? ======

Did ya know that there is a term limits bill in the US Congress? Well, if you did not know, we’re in the same boat. At least until a few months ago and then again last week, when I got a Citizen’s Petition to Congress to ‘immediately pass ‘The Term Limits for Congress Bill’ more formally known as House Joint Resolution 12 or HJR12 for short.

AND of course, ya know of  Article V that ignites the energy of the Convention of States volunteers. The difference between the COS resolution and HJR12 is the Article V convention’s focused breadth. The COS resolution proposes amendments that will 1) impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, 2) limit its power and jurisdiction, and 3) impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.  HJR12 is singularly focused on term limits for Congress.

Did ya know that according to a National Survey conducted January 22-27, 2025 by McLaughlin and Associates, 83% of Americans Support Term Limits for Congress?  https://www.termlimits.com/new-poll-83-of-americans-support-term-limits-for-congress/

Did ya know that in a Pew Research Center poll from July 2023, 87% of adults surveyed favored limiting the number of terms for members in Congress? This poll also found that eight-in-ten adults (79%) favor maximum age limits for elected officials in Washington, while 74% favor a maximum age limit for Supreme Court Justices.

Do ya know the reasons why our country needs Term Limits? Let me count a few of those ‘whys’ for you.

1.   Most Americans see that our federal government in Washington D.C. is BROKEN.

2.   According to public opinion polls, Congress has a public approval rating of just 8%. Yet more than 90% win re-election. (source: the conservative caucus)

3. $37 trillion - As of August 12, 2025, the national debt of the United States reached $37 trillion, according to the latest reports from the Treasury Department. This figure indicates a significant increase, surpassing pre-pandemic projections. And instead of addressing this imbalance, Congress keeps choosing to make things worse. See COS - FISCAL RESTRAINTS   https://conventionofstates.com/

4.   Restoring a citizen legislature – With term limits, there would be no more squatting in an office for 30, 40 or 50 years. The framers did not intend career politicians. (Note: Pelosi, McConnell, Warren, & Grassley among numerous others)

5.   Frustrating Lobbyists – There are 12,000 lobbyists in DC and many hate the idea of term limits. They never want to lose access to their favored members. Term limits would sever these ties with special interests.

6.    There are more reasons, but I will save them for later.

So, this blog is getting a bit long and is intended as a starting point to a series of educational articles on WHY-TERM LIMITS.

Until next time,

====== ALLONS ======
