COS Pennsylvania and Veteran Coalitions
| From conception two years ago to realization, Convention of States Action (COSA) PA is beginning to recruit volunteers to roll out new and exciting Coalition Teams, expanding the focus of our Veterans Coalition Team. The teams will operate under the leadership of Al Shrader, the PA State Coalitions Director, and be structured similarly to the Veterans Coalition Director (VCD) Team. The PA Veteran team has developed relationships with some key PA Veteran Celebrities, most notably Rocky Bleier. Wounded in battle in Vietnam, Rocky overcame significant injuries and, against all odds, returned to Pittsburgh as a player with the Steelers at Running Back. Rocky was on the Steelers teams that won four (4) Super Bowls. We’ve developed several new videos that feature Rocky as a supporter of COS, and this is a key to us getting more COS Petitions and recruiting Veterans and Patriots for COS. Also, Veterans Coalition Team members have been meeting with veterans at Veteran events and with Veterans organizations; acquainting them with COS; getting COS petitions signed; recruiting volunteers, and generally spreading the word about COS (and asking others to do the same). These other Coalition teams will do the same, but it may prove more challenging, as some of the coalition groups are not as organized as the Veterans organizations. We hope to get volunteers who want to grow a team around something they are passionate about from a professional, career or specific area of interest standpoint. In addition, we will reach out to organizations that are traditionally referred to as “patriot groups”, and also those that may not be characterized as patriotic groups, but have large numbers of “patriots” in their membership. These may range from Young Americans to Senior Citizen Organizations; Professionals to Firefighter/EMS Associations; to Civic, Fraternal, and Charitable and Church-based organizations… The Coalition team members will be going out on a mission to engage with other like-minded organizations that have large memberships. We hope to engage with them, establish relationships, seek partnerships, and get support for COS. The ultimate goal is to continue to expand our partnerships and use our COS petitions with state legislators to motivate them to support our “COS resolutions” in the PA General Assembly with a united voice. If anyone is interested in joining our PA Veterans Team or the PA Coalitions Team (in one of the many areas mentioned above), please contact Al Shrader at [email protected] or (610) 246-7344. |
