COS Leader Creates Community Art

One COS Texas volunteer found a creative way to connect and encourage celebration among her neighbors.

While many community activities are on hold and even traditional religious observances were cancelled over Holy Week, one Convention of States Texas volunteer found a creative way to connect and encourage celebration among her neighbors.

for sidewalk art.

Edna Krueger marked off a length of her sidewalk and set out a box of colored chalk, encouraging her Odessa neighbors to create sidewalk art celebrating the holy days.

Edna, a professional artist herself, set the pace with a drawing depicting Palm Sunday (shown above). She followed up with Easter-themed artwork the following week.

The neighborhood project even garnered a clip on the local news.

Edna has served as a Convention of States District Captain in Odessa before taking on the larger role of Regional Captain. Currently her focus is assisting the Texas team with volunteer activation.

After earning a bachelor of fine arts at UTPB, Edna has worked as an artist for over 40 years, specializing in portraiture. She uses a variety of media, but one of her favorites is pastels, which she says is similar to chalk!

In 2017, Edna created a Christmas tree ornament at the request of her state representative, Brooks Landgraf. It was displayed in the House of Representatives chamber at the state capitol, representing her House district #81.

In a time when many Americans look to government to provide security and a sense of well-being, Edna's holiday project demonstrates how ordinary citizens can use their talents to enhance the communities where they live. This is what we in Convention of States call self-governance!
