| What happens when COS opponents take over a committee hearing? The grassroots fire back, of course! This week, the Ohio Senate General Government Committee hosted its third hearing on Senate Joint Resolution 3, the COS application for an Article V convention, and while proponents and opponents typically receive separate hearings in the Buckeye State, this time, both sides were permitted to testify. On last night’s special edition of COS LIVE, COS Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters reacted to the wild hearing, which included expert testimony from COS Co-Founder Michael Farris, as well as a few, er, memorable moments from the opposition. The show kicks off with full remarks from Farris and other COS supporters — who, as Mrs. Peters put it, delivered a “dynamite” performance — before pivoting to a series of misleading monologues from our critics. While you can expect to hear the typical myths and misinformation about Article V, including from Common Cause and the John Birch Society, detractors also raised a few new, unusual objections involving a sentence diagram, the history of “elixirs,” and a Shakespeare paraphrase. It was an amusing spectacle, to say the least! Fortunately, for those who struggle to sit through the naysayers’ fear-mongering and slander, Mrs. Peters is there to debunk the lies.
