Volunteer Information

* If you have never worked a COS event, please read this document! It will tell you all you need to know about working an event.
* If you are not as familiar with COS as you would like to be, please go to www.cosuniversity.com and watch the four free videos.
* Please wear a COS shirt, or if you don't have one, we will give you a COS button to wear.
* Please be on time for your shift and plan to stay the entire shift. We will cover for each other on breaks.
* We will have a fan and cold water available in the tent.
* Click here for directions to the Illinois State Fairgrounds and a map.
* Traffic around the Fair is one-way going counter-clockwise. The gates are numbered.
* The COS booth is located right inside Gate 2 (Sangamon Ave. and Peoria Road), just past the Sky Glide Booth and next to the Information Booth. It is very close to a restroom and food stands.
* We have TWO parking passes for the lot near the booth that will be assigned each day to carloads of volunteers coming in. NOT EVERYONE WILL GET TO USE ONE OF THESE PASSES! Some people will have to park on their own.
* There are many private parking lots outside the fairgrounds that cost from $5 to $10. The lot inside the fairgrounds is at Gate 6 and costs $5. You can ride the Sky Glide to very near our booth (the Sky Glide is represented on the map by red dashes).
* Springfield Mass Transit runs buses all over the city. You can also park at Walmart on North Dirksen Parkway and ride Bus 1 to the Main Gate of the fairgrounds. The bus costs $1.25 but Seniors 65+ ride for $.60 (must show ID and Medicare card.) The trip takes about 30 minutes–see SMTD website for bus schedule.
