Convention of States enthusiasm echoes at Hills Alive

We collected over 150 petition signatures at a recent music festival!


> “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” - Declaration of Independence

The government in the United States of America is unique in many ways and one of those is the foundation that our rights come from God. We see this in the acknowledgment of someone creating and endowing people with rights in the Declaration of Independence.

At the Hills Alive Christian music festival in Rapid City this concept of freedom and faith being combined was obvious. It was impossible to overlook throughout the weekend the countless people dressed in patriotic clothing. 

Our Convention of States volunteers were on site and shared an active solution to end Washington, D.C., overreach for these Americans proclaiming their love of liberty and the understanding that we were created with God-given rights.

A small troop of nearly ten COS volunteers spent time sharing Article V with people during the two days of Hills Alive and collecting around 150 petition signatures to show support of Convention of States. 

The mission of COS is something most people get on board with once they learn the pillars of the movement and the passion among the COS family spreads quickly in it's members.

“The truth of the matter is that I never intended to be involved with COS,” said Teresa Wieler, a COS booth volunteer, from Rapid City. “It was (my husband) Mike's thing and I was only being supportive of him. However, as I became more knowledgeable about the Constitution, more aware of how our Government was failing us, it was just a natural progression to take a more active role.” 

“One visitor to the COS booth was hesitant to support a convention of states and asked for an example of what might change by holding a COS,” said Pat Baumann, COS volunteer from Custer. “We said that we are hoping to have term limits for career politicians. He exclaimed, 'Limit terms for politicians… that would be huge! Where do I sign my name?!' That was the fastest that we saw anyone make up their mind!”

It was a hot weekend but the foot traffic on Saturday was great and many people both local and out-of-state were eager to talk about their frustrations with the federal government.

“Watching the news I feel defeated, sad, and hopeless,” said Teresa. “But working in the booth I had the opportunity to talk to so many people. The energy is very fulfilling. The majority of people feel just as I do and it's good medicine to talk and realize we are not alone, and with some hard work we can change a hopeless situation into a hopeful one.”

Our volunteers shared their passion for our country with attendees as well as the other vendors. Several discussions fell back to a focus on morals and the basics of our government system.

“As we talked to people about the U.S. Constitution, we were overjoyed to see the abundant spirit of patriotic pride at this event,” said Pat. “The bond that we felt between ourselves and other patriots was definitely heart to heart. There is nothing like the fellowship of like minded patriots… the experience was amazing indeed!”

“I have young grandchildren and the direction our government is moving it is very frightening,” said Teresa. “I'm willing to do my part to help change the path we are currently racing down.”
