Convention of States - About
| Who gets to decide what’s best for you and your family? Should you have the power to decide? Or should some out-of-touch bureaucrat in Washington, D.C., make those decisions for you? The Founding Fathers would say the people should decide, and we know you would agree. It’s time we shift the national conversation away from what the government should do to “fix” our problems. It’s time we decide for ourselves whether the federal government should be involved at all in matters that affect us personally. Article V of the United States Constitution empowers the American people, acting through their state legislatures, to propose amendments limiting the federal government whenever it refuses to limit itself. Convention of States, the nation’s leading Article V group, seeks to pass a resolution calling for a limited-purpose convention to address three key areas: fiscal responsibility, term limits on federal officials, and other restraints on Washington’s power. With millions of petition signers, grassroots volunteers, and supporters across every state legislative district in America, the movement has enjoyed truly historic success; 19 of the 34 needed states have passed our resolution, and all 50 state legislatures have introduced it. According to the Constitution, 38 states must ratify anything that passes out of convention, ensuring broad, bipartisan support. In a time of rapidly declining faith in the federal government, we need a solution that will enable us to go around Washington and rein in the out-of-control political establishment, permanently.
