Congress reaches for our guns...and ammo, too
What part of “…shall not be infringed” does the representative not understand?
| The House member from Texas' 18th district referred a bill to the House Judiciary Committee last week. HR 127 seeks to curtail one of our fundamental constitutional rights to an extreme that is hard to fathom. It would grant the federal government sweeping powers from which it would be hard to imagine us returning. What part of “…shall not be infringed” does the representative not understand? HR 127 seeks to build a registry of all legally-owned firearms. Once generated, the bill would empower the government to compel current and would-be gun owners to apply for licensure to own a firearm. In order for the application to be accepted, a person would need to pass a background check that includes a psychological evaluation. That evaluation would be so extensive as to require interviews with spouses, family members, and even former spouses. It would also outlaw the purchase and possession of 0.50 caliber rounds and magazines (or “large capacity ammunition feeding devices”). I can hardly believe this bill could be passed by a sane Congress, but these are not the sanest of times. We are fortunate to have representation in the House Judiciary Committee: Sensenbrenner (WI-05) and Tiffany (WI-07). I encourage you to reach out and make known your feelings about this bill. And whoever represents you, make it known to them how you feel in case this bill makes it to the house floor. Though I can hardly imagine the prospect, be sure you let your senators know as well. We can ill afford to see this bill passed into law. These elected officials ought to recognize the drastic overreach this bill would grant the federal government over our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Even the representative from Texas who recommended the bill should recognize that. This bill should be D.O.A. in committee. But I am doubtful that this bill will be received with the derision it deserves. This bill only further demonstrates the dire need for the Convention of States. It is imperative that we limit not only the current overreach of the federal government, but, apparently, also their designs to reach even further. # | PETITION_WIDGET{petition_tag:;coalition_id:;anedot_url:} | # |
