Citizens Action Day in NJ May 2025

“It’s how this country was started. It’s how anything accomplished of any magnitude in the history of freedom. We can do this, we will do this and you will be right at the center when we get it done!” Michael P Farris May 8, 2025

On May 8, 2025, the Convention of States (COS) Team New Jersey proudly convened for Citizens Action Day, a powerful annual event held at the State Capital to champion the passage of the COS Resolution.

Fifty-four dedicated COS members journeyed to Trenton to command the attention of New Jersey lawmakers. United from all five regions of the state, we sent an urgent and unified message: the time to approve the COS resolution is now.

Among the inspiring speakers was Dr. Michael P. Farris, a founding member of Convention of States Action and a distinguished constitutional lawyer with 47 years of experience. Revered for his unwavering commitment to defending home education, safeguarding religious freedom, and preserving American sovereignty, Dr. Farris has made significant contributions on both national and international fronts. He has litigated as a constitutional appellate lawyer, serving as lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court, eight federal circuit courts, and the appellate courts of thirteen states. His presence at this event underscores the importance of our cause and the urgency with which we must act.

Dr. Farris declared that North Carolina is set to be the 20th state to pass the COS Resolution and Kansas is in process as well, so it could be the 21st state. He emphasized the strong backing of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for our cause. He confidently stated that an Article V convention will occur within four years, backing this with two compelling reasons.

First: the COS mission resonates with those who recognize God as the ultimate source of solutions to life's challenges. Dr. Farris categorized perspectives on problem-solving into four groups: man, money, government, and God, asserting that countries under heavy government control inevitably devolve into corruption and a lack of freedom.

Second: Next Dr. Farris proclaimed the “second reason was standing right in front of me. It's you, the grassroots leaders!” Dr. Farris highlighted the undeniable power of grassroots movements as evidenced by the success of the Home School Legal Defense Association, which spent 25 years ensuring that home schooling is legal in all 50 states.

Dr. Farris urged everyone to engage in COS efforts and prioritize building strong, supportive relationships. He expects that an Article V convention can propose substantial changes that will permanently restore decision-making authority to the states.

He concluded with a powerful reminder that the Article V process is a reliable and effective tool for change. Dr. Farris is very positive that 40 states will support the COS mission within the next four years. He inspired the audience in his closing, stating, “We will accomplish this together, and you will lead the charge when we succeed!”

COS NJ State Director Chris Garzino powerfully asserted that our path to victory lies in unwavering perseverance, disciplined action, steadfast belief in our cause, strong alliances, and, above all, divine intervention. He called on us to draw inspiration from our forefathers to cultivate a peaceful American life.

Garzino emphasized the urgent need to engage with state legislators, declaring that the COS resolution is the only viable solution to the pressing challenges confronting our nation today. He concluded with an inspiring message, assuring that every member of our team is committed to tirelessly advancing the COS resolution until it is passed.

NJ Assemblyman Bob Auth strongly highlighted the critical role of every citizen in contacting their elected officials, firmly stating, “I’m 100% behind it.” He emphasized the necessity of getting this initiative onto the legislative agenda. Auth revealed that he has already advocated for this in the assembly and urged everyone to rally and push for similar efforts in the senate.

The event brought together a distinguished array of attendees, including Michael Arnold, COS Regional Director, Al Toczydlowski, COS NJ Legislative Liaison, and Pastor Phillip Rizzo, among many other notable figures.
