Celebrate the Legacy, Take Action for the Future
4 Ways to Celebrate the Constitution.
| The upcoming year will be a major mile marker for America. Even now, the narrow green sign is coming into view: “250,” it proudly displays. The Semiquincentennial deserves all the hoopla surrounding it and more, and of course, the Constitution will be a major factor in those celebrations. (Where would we be without it?) But the important part about celebrating America is not how many fireworks you launch or hot dogs you consume at your 4th of July barbecue, but how well you live by and defend her values. With less than ten months to go, this week — Constitution Week — would be the perfect time to dive into the nation’s charter, acquaint (or reacquaint) yourself with the Founders’ original intent, and seek to uphold those principles in your life. In order to truly celebrate the Constitution’s legacy, you must take action for the future. Here’s an easy checklist to help you get started. 1. Read, Read, Read Are you reading the Constitution this week? What about your kids? Your church? Your school? Become the local fanatic who refuses to rest until everyone has read the Constitution. **2. Volunteer with your state team**\\ \\ From Olga T. Weber and Louise Leigh to Gregory Watson and Frank Scaturro, the so-called “little man” can make a huge difference in this country. That’s the power of American citizenship! Everyday citizen activists with a dogged determination can change the course of history, just by “taking action.” It’s happened before, and it can happen again. Volunteer with your COS state team, and who knows? you may become the next “unknown” American hero to leap to the pages of history. **3.** **Donate**\\ \\ I know, I know — no one wants to hear about this one. But giving to/sacrificing for the cause is a deeply American idea, reaching all the way back to the Founders, who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to each other. “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace,” blazoned the Father of the American Revolution, Samuel Adams. “May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” By joining the COS Patriots Club (learn more here), you can rest assured that your resources will be put to good use defending the Constitution. 4. Sign the petition Last but certainly not least, please consider signing the COS petition for an Article V convention below to alert your state legislators that you support the growing grassroots movement to rein in the federal government. Unlike most petitions, this one will actually make a difference. Convention of States is the nation’s leading grassroots army on a mission to save the Constitution by using the Constitution, and over 2.5 million patriots have already signed our petition. What better way to celebrate the great charter of our national liberties than that! Happy Constitution Day! # | PETITION_WIDGET{petition_tag:comms_blog_NA_07/31/2025_celebratethelegacy,takeactionforthefuture072312025;coalition_id:;anedot_url:} | # |
