Blind Faith in Washington, DC is Destructive

Seven months into the second Trump administration, conservatives cannot deny obvious triumphs: extended tax cuts, secured border, stabilized inflation, improved government efficiency.

But the blind faith among devotees of the current administration must be challenged. Wins by way of executive order are temporary. And let us not ignore the dull ache of economic suppression Americans endure shouldering a $37 trillion national deficit. Such recklessness sets the stage for the egregious economic trauma we will face as the world completely loses faith in the American dollar.

Immediate attention must also be paid to the proverbial can kicked down the road last March to avert a federal government shutdown. That interim prank now ensures a near certain shutdown the end of this September. Mid-term elections get closer every day.

It’s quite clear there is no traditional path for successfully course-correcting Washington from its penchant for interminable fiscal dysfunction.

Without looking to the Article V method of lawmaking, specifically the novel state convention for proposing amendments, even a well-intentioned presidential administration does not have the tools to affect the kind of functional change of which this country is in dire need.

The US Constitution allows the states to do the work Congress refuses while arrogant career legislators in Washington dawdle in the prioritization of their own re-election.

Only pragmatic directives in the form of state-sponsored amendments can ensure enduring federal government restraint.

Ohio legislators, in fact, have the opportunity right now to pass the Convention of States resolution. This paves the way for the states to propose amendments that can:

* Impose fiscal restraints on the federal government,
* Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government,
* Impart term limits on Congress and federal officials.

Fifteen more states must invoke Article V and with haste call for the passage of the Convention of States resolution in their respective legislatures. Ohio must be one of them.

Without utilizing this powerful tool, Ohioans and all Americans will see continued fiscal doom and destruction, not the prosperity deserving of a uniquely affluent country steeped in a tradition of limiting government and fostering a free-market economy.

Blind faith will destroy the future of our posterity. We must be people of action and be fierce champions for a state convention for proposing amendments.
