Avoid extremes - find balance

This is not an easy road to map out but we must do our best to be cautious but without using an iron fist. We are setting an example. Such is our destiny as a freedom-loving constitutional republic that the world still looks to for guidance and leadership.

As a nation that strives to balance the opposing needs for protecting our inalienable rights and freedoms while ensuring our safety and security, this meme captures the difficulty we face dealing with that see-saw like quandary.

How can we address this challenge without compromising either notable objective that, if overdone, can potentially hurt us in differing ways?

If we tighten the reins of liberty through excess controls, we all suffer from such restraint and risk having an onerous surveillance state monitoring our activities; the First Amendment cannot be placed in jeopardy. If we become too paranoid, we morph into a version of the Peoples Republic of China or North Korea by monitoring everyone’s political activities or spoken, written or even facial expressions. That level of surveillance is sadly now championed in the UK and many parts of Europe, where expressing political views in a post or praying publicly can lead to arrest and imprisonment. Who would ever have guessed?

We have fought against succumbing to such oppressive policies throughout our history (the McCarthy era and its blacklisting of artists is one not to be repeated), plus it is embedded in our revolutionary DNA not to succumb to authoritarian rule or censorship, despite the genuine risks of espionage and sabotage by our remaining too open. That is who we are on this side of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Independence Day coming up soon is a reminder to us all as to what we are committed to protecting, after all. FREEDOM.

Yet I personally believe that we can speak up and expect that visitors from other countries who arrive here on student visas and who benefit from our largesse (and thereby thrive under our generous system providing them with quality education) should acknowledge this invitation with proper behavior. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently summarized this idea as one who is grateful for the opportunities he recognizes he was given here. We are not recommending to enforce gratitude. By that, I mean these “foreign visa students” from countries that are known to be enemies of America should be able to exercise a degree of freedom of speech (something they lack in their own countries but breathe freely here) while (in my opinion) not free to engage in hostile actions attacking the foundation of the nation hosting them; and we must somehow monitor and prevent foreign orchestrated espionage and/or sabotage and “psyop” subterfuge actions.

We support the FBI and federal, state and municipal investigative agencies for exploring the funding sources of well planned and executed flag waving street protests we now see “springing up”, determining if such funding and came from offshore, and if so, prosecuting all knowingly involved here in America.

No kid gloves here!

How we do this without undermining liberties that we uphold as truly universal is a matter that the judiciary should decide, if we could only rely upon their better judgment. Yet, if visiting students are found to be “sleeper spies” or sworn to commit to stealing our intellectual property, that is a major concern and one that should cause us to treat them distinctly, as we cannot trust their motives. There should be more efforts to conduct vetting of all applicants from avowed enemy states before granting such visas.

This is not an easy road to map out but we must do our best to be cautious but without using an iron fist. We are setting an example. Such is our destiny as a freedom-loving constitutional republic that the world still looks to for guidance and leadership.

Meanwhile.. we can actively contribute to strengthen our republic.

One meaningful way is to take action that the Framers gave us in Article V. It is there to be used!

Convention of States offers us the only sustainable approach to implement reductions of waste and return powers back to the states that were never intended to be usurped by Washington DC.

Few can argue with these proposed topics for consideration as amendment objectives to be determined by the states themselves - requiring ratification by 38 states.

The 3 topics/issues to be addressed in an Article V Convention that our grass roots movement has proposed are as follows:

1. Term Limits for Congress & Bureaucrats in Washington DC

2. Fiscal Responsibility

3. Reduction in the size and scope of the federal government
