At What Point Does a Society Protect Life?

South West Convention of States Team Does it Again!

At the recent Wisconsin State GOP Convention, Ron Johnson U.S. Senator from Wisconsin called for an educational approach to the right to life / women’s rights debate. Recent elections in Wisconsin have clearly shown there is a raging debate about Roe v Wade being overturned and how Wisconsin will treat the subject.

Wisconsin State Senator Dan Knodl recently won WI Senate District 8 election. The election was close; Knodl won by a margin of only 1.3%. Just 1300 votes made the difference. Many believe the abortion issue played a large role in the election. Senate District 8 is dominated by Milwaukee North and Western affluent suburbs. And many believe women’s votes were influenced by the recent change in federal abortion policy.

It is an important issue for the Republicans to decide. Since June 24, 2023 when Roe v Wade was struck down, abortions are regulated by the states. Current Wisconsin law bans abortion in all cases except when the life of the mother is in danger.

The senator asked the question, “At what point does a society protect life?  Women have rights. At some point the child has rights. At what point do those rights take effect?”

In the near future, Senator Johnson is hosting a number of public town hall type meetings around Wisconsin which will feature a discussion about when the rights for all parties take effect. He vowed to find the best advocates for both sides and have a public conversation.

Senator Johnson also touched on several other subjects, including how he liked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his stance on the Covid fiasco. The senator recommended several books including the “Creature from Jekyll Island”.

While the Convention was hearing and debating several issues of the day, South West Wisconsin Team Leaders helped educate attendees of the Wisconsin Republican Convention about Convention of States (COS). The convention was held June 16-17, 2023, at La Crosse, WI.

The team conversed with many Republicans and other groups displaying at the event. The atmosphere was excited inside and outside Convention Hall. Many people were interested in learning about COS or had questions.

Representative Donna Rozar (R – Marshfield) visited with the Convention of States Team.  She will be attending the Convention of States Foundation's Simulation as a commissioner.  The Convention of States Foundation Simulation is being held in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, August 2-4, 2023  For more information see the website for this historic event.

The South West Wisconsin Team did a bang-up job as they always do. The team members are seasoned COS Veterans who are well educated about all things COS. They enjoy delivering our message to other citizens. Special thanks go out to Amy McCutcheon MN State Co-Director for helping out. Wisconsin Convention of States is lucky to have such a wonderful team.
