America's future: Worth fighting for
A picture can be worth a thousand words.
| Out of the mouths of babes comes wisdom goes the well-known idiom derived from Psalm 8:2. In some cases, wisdom can also be found on the hats of babes, as the beautiful child pictured above demonstrates. America is worth fighting for, and an Article V convention can save America from the fiscal irresponsibility that has plagued us for generations. Right now, that little one's share of the national debt is above is just over $106,000. At this rate, a child born in 2024 will have a public debt share of just under $210,000 when he or she reaches 30 years of age.  Source: Federal Budget in Pictures That debt is rapidly approaching $36.3 trillion and grows by the second. Each day we spend $1.8 billion alone to service the debt. These figures are unconscionable. Until and unless structural changes are made that cannot be easily altered the share of the budget dedicated to servicing the debt, and the share of every American will only rise while the outlook for future generations grows dim – no matter who controls the White House and Congress at a particular time. So what are we going to do to save their America? Convention of States is getting things done. Not only have 19 states already called upon Congress to convene an Article V convention to limit the power of the federal government, significant progress is being made in legislatures all across the country – COS has increased support in committee and floor votes and is unleashing the power of social media to convince legislators to support our resolution and our effort. In addition, Indiana governor Mike Braun and Zach Nunn, U.S. representative from Iowa, officially endorsed Convention of States this month. Momentum continues to build: just last week we crossed a significant threshold – over 2.7 million Americans have signed the COS petition that urges state legislators to support the COS resolution. An Article V convention will certainly discuss and propose an amendment or amendments that place strict restraints upon the federal government's power to tax and spend – a necessary regimen of simplicity and basic economic sense. We and our representatives in state capitols were given the task by the Founders and those who sacrificed everything to perform the function envisioned for us – to stand up when the federal government is out of control and take the reins. Fiscal responsibility starts at home – and politically speaking that means the states. It's long past time for an Article V convention that will discuss and propose a constitutional amendment or amendments that will force fiscal responsibility and fundamental accounting principles to Congress. Article V will save America for the young sage pictured above and future generations.
