Alabama Special Elections

Its special election time in Alabama.


Convention of States promotes active, engaged, and informed citizens. We want to make sure you are engaged in upcoming Alabama House District 74 and House District 42 Races.

The candidates for District 74, Montgomery County area are:

Republicans

Former Montgomery School Board President Charlotte Meadows and attorney Michael Fritz will meet in the Republican primary runoff on August 27. The winner of the runoff will face former Montgomery NAACP President Rayford Mack (D) in the November 12 general election.

The candidates for District 42, Chilton and portions of Autauga County are:

Republicans

Allen Caton, current Chilton County commissioner
Jimmie Hardee, current Chilton County commissioner
Van Smith, current Autauga County commissioner
Shannon Welch, town administrator for Jemison

They will meet in the Republican primary runoff on August 20. If no candidate in the Republican primary receives more than 50 percent of the vote, a special primary runoff election will be held on Nov. 5, 2019. If no primary runoff election is necessary, the general election will be held on Nov. 5, 2019, instead of Jan. 21, 2020.

The winner of the runoff will face Kenneth Allison Sr. of Jemison (D) in the general election.
