A Time to Unite: Reviving Constitutional Principles Together

A Convention of States meeting was held at Glenwood Library in Greensboro, NC. Guest speaker Christine Villaverde asked each one of us, “What does Liberty mean to you?” She emphasized the urgent need to renew America's commitment to constitutional principles by restoring power to the states and limiting government overreach-a message that resonated throughout the discussion.

Private Property: A Pillar of Constitutional Freedom

There's a stark contrast between using eminent domain for genuine public benefit and abusing it to advance corporate interests-especially when it infringes on private property rights which stand as a pillar of our constitutional freedoms. She used the example of the Kelo Vs. New London in 2005 where a citizen's home was taken under eminent domain for public use but the business never developed the land.

Legislators as Guardians of States' Rights

Legislators must jealously guard the authority of their states, resisting federal overreach that threatens the very sovereignty and self-determination which underpin true self-governance, the balance envisioned by the Founders. The Federal Government spends taxpayer money on grants that reflect its own priorities-while citizens keep less and states grow dependent on federal funding. As the Convention of States Pocket Guide warns, Congress has turned state legislatures into their regional agencies rather than respecting them as truly independent republican governments. This dependency-especially when paired with unfunded mandates, is a slippery slope toward Socialism, eroding both fiscal self-determination and state sovereignty.

Cultivating Patriotism & Future Leadership

Teaching young Americans to appreciate the sacrifices that earned our freedoms is vital to instilling a lasting love for their country. Gallop polling found that only 58% of Americans take pride in their country. The best way to preserve liberty is by raising future Constitutional leaders, beginning with inspiring the next generation at a young age. America's story isn't just one of prosperity-it's a legacy built on sacrifice, principle, and the enduring fight for freedom.

Watch this video where he speaks of his reverence for American history and concern for the future as he testifies at a legislative hearing in favor of the Convention of States Project resolution.

Power in Numbers

The North Carolina Convention of States Team and its volunteers are showing that real power lies in an informed citizenry-engaging directly with their state house representatives and senators to advance awareness of Article V, the solution as big as the problem.

Currently, North Carolina is 176 signatures away from 100,000, a huge milestone for the grassroots' efforts in the state. You can join the movement. Sign the petition and become a volunteer activist.
