A Dedicated Volunteer for Convention of States
The Convention of States Texas community mourns the loss of Stephen Atnip, a devoted Grassroots Coordinator and expert trainer, who passed away on Christmas Day 2024. Stephen faithfully served the Texas team from June 2021, leaving behind an indelible legacy of dedication, expertise, and mentorship that will not soon be forgotten. Stephen Atnip Serving at a Gun Show LEFT TO RIGHT: Ales Soudek, Jayme Burkhart, Stephen Atnip, Johanna McCrary, Cyndie Phillips and Sunday Shibley Stephen's passion for empowering grassroots efforts was evident in his work as an expert trainer for “Operation Equip,” a technology training program he helped implement. Through this initiative, Stephen ensured that Convention of States volunteers had the tools and confidence needed to excel in their roles. His comprehensive classes covered everything from sending effective email and text blasts to mastering platforms like Slack, TelePatriot, the COSAction app, Citizen Builder, and leadership tools like the Follow-Up Tool and Leadership Management Tool. More than just a technical expert, Stephen was an extraordinary mentor. He had a unique ability to make technology approachable for new and seasoned volunteers alike, guiding them through onboarding and training with patience and clarity. His efforts not only strengthened the Texas team but also served as a model for grassroots teams across the nation. ==== “It is great knowing we have people like Stephen we can count on. As one volunteer shared, “It is great knowing we have people like Stephen we can count on. I appreciate all you taught me.” Another noted, “Stephen is wonderful. I am thankful for all he does.” These heartfelt words underscore the deep respect and admiration Stephen garnered from those he worked alongside. Born on Nov 12, 1954, Stephen brought a wealth of knowledge, humility, and a servant’s heart to every endeavor. His dedication to the Convention of States mission stemmed from a belief in the power of citizen-driven action to shape the future of our nation. While his technical expertise was invaluable, his true legacy lies in the relationships he built and the lives he touched within the grassroots community. Stephen’s passing leaves a significant void in the Texas team and the larger Convention of States family. However, his legacy of service, innovation, and mentorship will continue to inspire future generations of volunteers. As we reflect on his contributions, we celebrate a life well-lived in service of a cause greater than himself. We extend our deepest condolences to Stephen’s family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. |
