Here’s what it is designed to accomplish. \\ \\ * Amends the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA, 1993), to require states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship and identity – in person – when registering to vote in a Federal election. \\ * Ensures only US citizens are registered to vote in federal elections.{{https://content.conventionofstates.com/cosaction-prod/public/content/images/85952/85952_original.png?106x104}}\\ * Requires states to establish a program to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.\\ * Empowers U.S. citizens to bring civil suits against non-compliant election officials.\\ * Provides for prompt updating to any guidance associated with the SAVE Act.\\ \\ **WHY Is it Needed?**\\ \\ * It is estimated that 10-27% of the 20 million non-citizens of voting age in 2022 are illegally registered to vote. This is enough to tip the vote in U.S. Congressional, Senatorial and Presidential elections.\\ * Biden’s Executive Order 14019 requires all federal agencies to promote voter registration forms and distribute voter registration forms.\\ * The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) requires that states have to verify identity of voters before they can be registered to vote in a federal election, but you don’t have to be a citizen of the US to get a license or a SS number.\\ * Currently there is no mechanism to assure that everyone voting is a citizen. The states don’t have a way to confirm citizenship.\\ * The Supreme Court ruled that states cannot require documentary proof of citizenship.
